Flexible seating is becoming more and more popular in the classroom. It provides students with a choice, which is really important as they are learning to think for themselves. Not only does it provide a choice, but they are able to learn in a way that is comfortable for them and it keeps them focused. It helps the student to do their very best in a place other than a traditional seat. With these seating arrangements, they will have a chance to get their wiggles out, rock, bounce or position their bodies in a way that is comfortable for them. The more choices students have, the more they have ownership over their learning. They become excited, engaged and productive towards their learning. Not only will flexible seating help students mentally with learning, but it helps them physically. The colorful, stack stools and wobble stools allow students to move freely by exercising their legs, backs and abdominal muscles. Its a great outlet for students who are restless and students who have extra energy. This type of seating will allow students to burn more calories, use up excess energy, improve metabolism, increase motivation, create a better oxygen flow to the brain, improve core strength and overall posture. The more physical activity students are allowed to have throughout the day, links to enhanced academic performance, better health and improved behavior. Flexible seating creates a welcoming environment, student-choice/voice and an opportunity to work at their highest potential.
