Engaging Special Needs Students in Literacy
Funded Feb 14, 2019Words fail to express how deeply touched I am that a complete stranger decided to invest into the education and future of my students. Thanks to your generous support I was able to order dozens of games and tools for my early readers. We use these games each and every day in the classroom.
While all students need access to quality learning materials, it is especially important for my students. My students all have been identified as a student with a special need and many of them do not progress as fast as their peers and need a large variety so they aren't stuck practicing the same materials. I also have some students that learn differently and need highly engaging materials to get in the practice they need.
Once again, thank you so much for choosing to invest in the education and future of my students. I am so honored that you chose them! Myself and my colleagues truly feel like we have partners in education with so many generous donors like you!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Craig

Funded Sep 19, 2018Once again, thank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom and my students. This project allowed for me to get interactive math resources. This project was math tools for early numeracy. One of the items we received was a stamp-it number kit. This kit allows the students to stamp a number problem and then solve it. The kids LOVE this tool and are so excited when they see that we are using it that day.
When my students first saw the materials they were surprised to see all the boxes. We opened the boxes together to see the materials inside. We were about to take a math test and the students asked if they could use the frog number line counters. They worked great and I've never seen a student so excited to take a math test!
Now that my students are more engaged in math I look forward to them spending more time in active learning and less time spent in frustration. The students have asked me about games and fun tools for literacy so that will be our next Donor's Choose project.”

Funded Sep 14, 2018Once again, thank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom and my students. This project allowed for me to get interactive math resources. This project was math games for all of the 1st and 3rd grade curriculum. This means that the kid have year-round fun games to play to learn math concepts. For example, when the students were learning rounding, we were able to play "Number Roundup", a cowboy themed rounding game.
When my students first saw the materials they were surprised to see all the boxes. We opened the boxes together to see the materials inside. They each looked over the games (shown on the back of the boxes) and asked if we could play them together. Every time I bring a game into the room they're exciting to see what game we're playing.
Now that my students are more engaged in math I look forward to them spending more time in active learning and less time spent in frustration. The students have asked me about games for literacy so that will be our next Donor's
Choose project.”

Funded Sep 4, 2018Thank you, thank you, thank you! With your generous donation all of the supplies have arrived. The first students to see the supplies were my 3rd graders. They were in the resource room and in need of pencils. I let them gather around me and look into the Amazon boxes. Their eyes lit up as they saw box after box of brand new supplies. I shared with them that strangers bought these for us so that everybody had enough school supplies for the entire year. They were truly touched that somebody cared enough about them to give them these school supplies.
With your donation I was able to go around and inventory every students' desk to see what they have and what they need. The students are so excited to have the supplies they need for the year. For some of our kids, this is the first year they won't need to "borrow from the teacher."
Your donation goes a long way to the self-esteem and education of so many children in need. Thank you!!!”

Funded Nov 9, 2017Words fail to express how deeply touched I am that complete strangers (and my mom, hi mom!) decided to invest into the education and future of my students. Thanks to your generous support I was able to order dozens of books for my early readers. We use these books each and every day in the classroom. We use them for reading fluency, word study, phonics lessons, comprehension, story sequencing, and so much more. The students are even able to take them home to practice their skills with their parents.
While all students need access to a variety of quality books, it is especially important for my students for several reasons. First, my students are mostly from low-income families. This means that parents don't have the disposable income to purchase books and getting to the library can be hard for various reasons. Second, most of my students are emerging readers. This means that books that are right for them are often simple with repeated text, so one book is quickly read and they are ready for the next book. Additionally, my students all have been identified as a student with a special need and many of them do not progress as fast as their peers and need a large variety so they aren't stuck reading the same materials.
Once again, thank you so much for choosing to invest in the education and future of my students. I am so honored that you chose them! Myself and my colleagues truly feel like we have partners in education with so many generous donors like you!”
