  • Technology for the Classroom

    Funded Apr 17, 2018

You'll be happy to know that your gift to our class is in use very single day by several students. My students are using the laptops to practice reading and math skills. We also use the laptops in science. My students are learning how to be engineers. The students work in pairs and work on simulations of different scientific situations and to do research on the laptops. During periods that my students are at a special class or during lunch, students are free to use the laptops for recreational fun.”

  • Becoming Writers and Scientists

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

This year we are using new programs in both reading and science. Each program requires that students have and maintain a notebook. Often times students come in one or even no notebooks. Having these notebooks has enabled my students to have the necessary materials to do the work they are asked to complete. My students are learning how to read intensely and how to note important elements in the books they are reading independently. The notebook is not just a place for notes, its a place to think about the characters in all their complexity. Their science notebooks are a place where they can work out solutions to real world problems.”

  • Small Groups, Big Thinking

    Funded Sep 5, 2018

We want to thank you for the chart paper, easel, digital timer, and magnetic holders. As you can see, they are used not by me as the teacher, but also by the students in the class. We use the easel daily, for both as a whole class and for small group instruction on the rug. The children love having the timer. We use it to test our mastery of multiplication facts. They also use it to time themselves while on the laptops for I-Ready. The magnetic holders are helpful when students work independently while I work with a small group.”

  • They Wobble But They Don't Fall Down!

    Funded May 10, 2018

I have to say I was a little worried that the students wouldn't take to the chairs. I am happy to say I was wrong. They love them. Even students who visit my room during the afterschool program that uses my room love them. Our class is now known as the class with the wobble chairs! Not only are they fun to sit on, but they are also much lighter in weight than the traditional metal chairs. This makes it easy for students when at dismissal they must put their chairs up and take them down in the morning.”

  • Fraction Action

    Funded May 8, 2018

These fraction strips have been a blessing to my summer school class and will continue to be throughout the following several years. The pieces are durable and even the smallest pieces are large enough to be easily handled by students who have issues with fine motor skills. They are also brightly colored and can easily be found when they fall on the floor accidentally. The best part is the tray they came in which can used to store them after each use. The students enjoy replacing each row of fractional parts which ensures that we will have all the pieces for future use.”

  • Basic Supplies

    Funded Nov 22, 2017

Thank you for funding this project. The class uses these materials every single day. The printer ink and copier paper is used by the students to print out research or pieces of writing they process on the computer. I also use the ink and paper to print activities for the students. The wait for copies sometimes exceeds a week. The sharpeners are a huge help for me and the students as well. They are quality sharpeners and last a lot longer than most sharpeners. Which means less time standing at the garbage pail and more time hard at work!”

  • Paper and Pencil Replace

    Funded Mar 24, 2018

With budget cuts ever present, having Donors like you is more and more important than ever. While this might be one of the more exciting projects, it is definitely one of the more necessary. Pencils are a hot commodity in our class. More so, these particular pencils are always in demand. They are red and triangular in shape so they never roll off of the tables. Being red, it is easy for me to identify them as belonging to the class and not an individual. This means they stay in class and never go home only to never return.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Viera

  • Wobble, Wobble, Wobble

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

My students and I would like to thank you so very much for purchasing the class set of wobble chairs for us. Prior to you funding our project we only had six wobble chairs and the students fought over them. Now that they each have their own seat and all is calm in the world! Some of the students prefer to sit in a regular chair and use the wobble chair as a foot stool. Either way, the students are able to get the physical movement they need without being a distraction to the rest of the class.”

  • Student/Parent Art Club

    Funded Dec 19, 2017

This is possibly my favorite of all my projects. It is also the one that I feel has the most impact. Every year we have parents come in for art classes with their children. This year we able to provide more than just construction paper and tempera paint or crayons. As part of the parent engagement night this year, parents were able to create their own family based art using acrylic paint on real canvas'! It was wonderful to watch as mothers, fathers, grandparents, and even smaller siblings joined our students for an afternoon of art.”

  • Mobile STEM Center

    Funded Aug 1, 2017

My students are so excited to work with the STEM kits that came in the STEM Mobile Cart you donated to our classroom. As you can see in the photos they jumped right in and can't wait for the next time they can explore each new kit. Science is always important, but it is especially important to this fourth grade class because we take a state exam at the end of the year in which each student must independently conduct three experiments. Having the cart in our class will provide students with multiple opportunities to practice using the scientific method. Again, thank you so very much!”
