Let’s Upgrade to a New Color Printer!
Funded May 8, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donation to help us get our new color printer! It is used to create colorful, useful, academically appropriate supplemental worksheets that make our learning fun! It will continue to be used all year long, with all the holidays we celebrate in Kindergarten!
The students are so excited to see the skills they are working on in bright colors instead of black and white, it's so much more fun when color is involved. Most importantly, color helps when differentiating the work for my students. Some need the color cues to know how to write their letters, highlighted so they can trace them, while other just need to remember the "sky" space, identified with blue, the "cloud line" which is the dotted line separating the sky with the "grass" space, identified with green, and where most of our lower case letters hang out, and even below the grass where the "dirt" is, the place the hooks and lines of lower case letters hang below the bottom line.
When they "get it" there is not better feeling for them. The looks on their faces and the excitement in their voices make that learning something that sticks with them. Thank you for giving that to them. We are very thankful for your generosity and support.”

Funded Aug 24, 2021The chairs arrived after school, the day the students were dismissed for winter break! You should have seen how confused/happy they were on the day we returned! Having these kid friendly chairs gives them so much independence in taking care of their workspace. They are so proud of their new chairs. They make sure to put them up every afternoon and even clean them with our new classroom care routines! They are able to move them without making loud noises or big scratches on the floor!
Your generosity has made it so my kindergarten students can be active participants in the daily care of our learning space. Thank you for making this teacher's wish for better, lighter chairs come true!”

Wobbly Seats for Wiggly Firsties: Alternative Seating
Funded Aug 13, 2016I am so very thankful to all the donors that supported my project!
Let me tell you how the Wobble Chairs have changed my classroom. Kids today just can't sit still. I don't think it's much different from when I was a child, but today we have a better understanding of just why it is so difficult! Before the Wobble Chairs arrived, and for the 20 years before that, I saw that when I insisted the students sit "properly" and "stop wiggling" other behaviors worsened. Today my kids can choose from different seating options in my room. They are better able to sustain focus and start work when directed and finish! Not only are their brains more fully engaged in the assignments, their bodies and brains are connected because they are moving. Many of the negative behaviors have ceased. The movements stops some, not all, of the extraneous talking and distractibility. This makes us all so much happier. The kids know that when the teacher is happy, the whole class is happy! And learning! And engaged!
Thank you, beyond measure for your help in making this vision come to fruition for this very happy teacher and these very engaged and focused students!”

Connecting Art and Literature!
Funded Jan 27, 2012The year has come to an end and all the materials have been packed up and stored. I wake up on Friday mornings thinking about art! Your students have had a wonderful opportunity to use new mediums and create amazing, individualized pieces of art; many suitable for framing. The books and materials that were purchased through Donors Choose were key to the ability to create these treasures. We read books, looked at different artist styles and came up with our own designs.
The art you see in these photos was inspired by books we received. The medium is water color pencils. The idea was to make one continuous line; curving, bobbing and weaving, intersecting itself in several places. Then the direction was to color in each of the spaces created by the lines with different colors, never having the same colors touch. Once all the spaces were colored in, they received a small water color brush and water. By dipping their brush into the water and then using it on the paper, they were able to intensify the colors they had chosen. The outcome was just stunning. They were all up on the walls for Open House and were received with plenty of "ooh's and aah's" from our visitors. Our classroom became an instant art gallery and created a stir that culminated with many visitors from other classrooms coming to see what we had done.
Needless to say, the support from the parents of these students was phenomenal. I say it again as I said at the beginning of the year; I can't to my job well, unless the parents are doing theirs. The partnership we make, creates an environment for the students to blossom and bloom and grow in all areas. We are lucky and blessed to have such a supportive group of parents who
