Funded Oct 21, 2019I have been moved from 4th grade to 2nd grade and all of my books are at the upper elementary level. Most of my students in second grade are not reading on grade level yet, so I definitely needed to change my classroom library. This project has helped me to build a classroom library that is on level with my students' needs and is helping to build a community of stronger readers. Many of the students do not have books at home to read and our classroom library will allow them to read each night, as required by our school.
Because my students are reading more frequently, they are getting exposure to more words. They are increasing their phonics skills and working on improving fluency and comprehension.
As mentioned above, many of them do not have books at home to read. Many of the students come from low income homes with parents that don't speak English and they have told me that they are happy to have books in the classroom library to choose from.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Flacco
