Chromebook for Third Graders!
Funded Aug 22, 2018Thank you so much for your kind donations! My students are eager to use our new Chromebook every day. Best Buy increased the price of the Lenovo Chromebook that I originally requested, so I exchanged the Lenovo one for a HP one at the same price. My students are super excited to log-in to the Chromebook with their own user names and passwords and are very happy that they can now save their work without worrying that another teacher or student will delete their work on accident (as we all must share one set of laptops).
So far, students have completed a travel guide project in which I assigned a Google Classroom template for a brochure and students needed to research an assigned country and write a paragraph about different topics such as food, and language. Additionally, we use the Chromebook every day during math instruction. Students have individual accounts and can log-in during math workshop and complete assignments that are connected with the math curriculum that we use in the classroom. One student in particular, was even eager to take a test because he got to use the Chromebook!
We don't only use the Chromebook for math and history instruction! It is always connected to our SMARTboard so students are constantly interacting with this new technology during every lesson. My goal is to eventually have enough Chromebooks for every student in the class in order to complete assignments faster and integrate technology even further. It is very important for students to learn how to use computers in class because I have noticed that many families don't have access to computers at home. Thanks again for your kind donations. The students will be forever thankful.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Costa

Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. The impact that the books have had on my students is tremendous. Many of the books that I have requested have gone to fill empty shelves in our classroom library as well as gone to use for daily read alouds on our class carpet. Students now have access to many different texts that spark their interest and actually want to visit our new library on a daily basis. Books are organized by reading level, and students are tested on their level 5 times per year. Students are allowed to choose from books on their individual levels and now have so many more options than they have ever had before.
In my classroom, students are encouraged to read in all subject areas. From writing, to math, students are exposed to literacy. Different text sets allow students to read to learn. In one unit in particular, students were studying Egypt. The new books that I ordered, allowed students to complete research projects and develop an interactive travel guide on different aspects of Egyptian geography and culture.
In addition, many students are enjoying reading the different text sets in different subject areas. One student in particular, enjoyed studying sharks. The new books allowed the student to complete an informational brochure on the topic, and he then presented his findings to the class. Additionally, another student wanted to complete a research project on Nigeria. The new text sets, encouraged the student to learn something different, and inspired her to complete more research on the water crisis in Africa.
Again, I wish to thank all the donors and to express my sincere gratitude for the generous donations.”

Funded Feb 3, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donations in funding a new easel for my classroom! Students are already enjoying our new easel displaying their work and playing math games. My students were super excited to see a big box wheeled into the classroom and were super interested to see what was inside. Students were so excited to see a new bright clean easel and were eager to help me put it together!
Our students are already enjoying our new easel. In math, I had students solve a problem involving area and perimeter in groups on large chart paper. Then students came up and displayed their work to the class on the easel. The groups explained the process that they used and how they solved the math problems. Students in the class were able to ask the groups questions and were fully engaged in learning from each other.
We are currently studying Japan in our social studies curriculum and I would like students to create posters on Japan and display them to the class on the easel. Students will be given a set of criteria, a rubric and a checklist to self monitor their progress as well as be able to use a computer to do research and print out materials. I can't wait to see how these projects turn out and how students will present them on our new easel!”
With gratitude,
Mr. Costa
