My students are majority English Language Learners whose families are from Columbia, El Salvador, and other Central and South American countries. The school's neighborhood is a borough which is diverse linguistically, culturally and socioeconomically. Some of the students are just beginning to learn English. All of the children are warm, generous and eager-to-learn.
Our school is our district's first public Montessori school. As such, we are committed to high achievement through Montessori’s time-tested philosophy and methods. Montessori’s pedagogy maximizes the child's intrinsic motivation to learn. In this way, the teacher serves as a guide to the child’s development: socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively. The goal of the method is for children to grow into life-long learners and productive citizens of the world.
We are a small, neighborhood school of less than 100 students. Most of the children walk to and from the school each day with their parents.
