My students are all Deaf and Hard of Hearing. Due to lack of language exposure at a younger age, many of our students delayed educationally and need more support. Our students are visual learners and benefit from activities that are hands on and visual. At Texas School for the Deaf, we are funded only through the state and depend on the generosity of our community and other sponsors to help get our students what they need to help them be successful. Our campus serves Deaf and Hard of Hearing students all across the state of Texas. Many students travel every weekend to Austin, stay in our dorms through the week, and travel back home to families on the weekend. Likewise more than half of our students are from low income families, and unable to buy certain materials for class.
