  • Expressing Ourselves With Colors of the World

    Funded Dec 9, 2022

Words cannot express how happy the art materials have made my students, but I will try. My clever and creative students were overjoyed when they saw the big box of materials brought to our classroom. Unwrapping the box felt like a most wonderful surprise.

What I loved seeing most was their curiosity. My students immediately started thinking of ways they would like to use the materials. So far, we have dove into our Colors of the World colored pencils. My students used them to make beautiful self portraits.

Our next project, is using the colors of the world paper to create an inclusive collage that will illustrate their unique beauty and individuality. Thank you so much for helping my students gain the materials that will help them shine.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ana.

  • Enhance Our Care Closet

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

We were running low on supplies and you were there to support us in growing our resources. I'm sorry it took so long to say thank you for the amazing way you saved the day. Our students relied on this resource every day and our care closet had everything they could need.

Student ambassadors helped maintain and take care of inventory which gave them a tremendous amount of pride in the responsibility they felt in the upkeep of the car closet. Our growing school needed a growing care closet and you were there to help us achieve that. Thank you so much for being there for our families.”

    Mrs. Ana.

  • A Comprehensive Care Closet

    Funded Nov 15, 2018

The care closet meant so much to my students. It gave them a place to turn to for basic necessities without a fear of stigma. Students worked together to stock the shelves and were so pleased and satisfied when they completed the set up. They were amazed at all of the materials that the closet offered such as soap, shampoo and uniforms.

These resources helped create an even warmer and more secure environment. The project truly enhanced our school community. It's wonderful to know that the care closet will live on in some capacity for the foreseeable future. Thank you for all of your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ana.

  • Care Closet: Caring for a School Community

    Funded Sep 25, 2017

My students and I have created a safe space where our families in need can come and get the supplies that they need to get them through difficult financial times. Some of these supplies include soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste and diapers. My students opened the boxes and inventoried all of the supplies. They then organized the supplies into colorful bins and decorated the space so that it looked inviting. Our care closet also provides pieces of our school uniform to students in need.

We have a few students in a foster situation and a number of families dealing with unemployment. We are a title I school, which means that the majority of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Having the care closet means we can help ease the anxiety of our families and help our students feel safe and secure. Looking forward, we would like to purchase a clothes rack to help hold coats for our students for the winter. Our ultimate goal would be for the care closet to grow into a pantry as well. Thank you so much for your generous donation. We are so grateful for your support of our school community. When our students feel safe and taken care of they are more successful academically. We couldn't have done this without you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ana.

  • Family Game Night!

    Funded Apr 15, 2017

When my students opened the boxes of amazing games, they were thrilled. We feel so incredibly lucky and privileged to receive your generous support. Not only do we have throw backs such as Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders, but also a giant domino set.

On a warm day in June we had our first Family Game Night and ice cream social. Students played with each other and their families. We talked about playing fair as well as being good winners and losers. They had such a lovely time at this event. Research shows that parent involvement improves student academic success.

Our next steps are to have at least two of these events this school year, one in the fall and one in the spring because our new school is growing each year and we want continue to nurture our school culture. Again, thank you for your support and kindness. It is a comfort to know there are generous people out in the world looking out for students' needs.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ana.

  • Big Book Bonanza!

    Funded Feb 9, 2017

My students love their big books. We use these books in different ways. Sometimes we use them for shared reading, other times my students read with a partner. The large, colorful illustrations of these classics really bring them to life. We have learned about story elements such as character and setting. My students also practiced how to retell a story using details.

Reading takes on many forms in my classroom. Sometimes my students are quiet and reflective, and other times reading looks like an enthusiastic display of excitement and discussion. They really enjoy reading with a buddy and getting to talk about their favorite part.

Some of their favorite texts were, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See? and Chrysanthemum. Chrysanthemum is a touching story about a little mouse who is bullied, and a teacher who stands up for her and changes her classmates perspective. My students really connected with that story. I strive to make my class a safe place where students feel confident to learn and grow. These beautiful big books help us do just that. Thank you again for your continued support of my students and our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ana.

  • Reflection Before Removal

    Funded Feb 9, 2017

My students and I have created a beautiful safe space to use for quiet reflection. In their mindful room the students use the beautiful pillows to meditate and recharge. They are able to look up at their new light fixture and enjoy the constellations as they swirl around the ceiling, helping them regain composure and be their best self during instruction.

When my students saw the pillows, light fixture and yoga cards, they immediately started using them. They were so excited. The yoga cards help them make a strong mind-body connection. They really enjoy nurturing a healthy mind and body. When my students need to tune out the world and have a few minutes of peace and quiet to refocus, they use the silencing headphones.

The mindful room will continue to be their oasis in hopes of continuing to nurture their social emotional needs. Moving forward we would like to enhance the mindful room to add additional sensory features that will address more students varied educational and social-emotional needs. We are so grateful for your support and hope that you will have continued interest in our class projects.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ana.

  • Donor, Donor What Do I See?

    Funded Sep 14, 2016

    Dear Donors,

My students are enjoying their Eric Carle books so much. The artwork is so beautiful and enchanting that every time I show them a new one it takes their breath away. We are exploring the author's use of pictures to tell stories as well as how to retell a story using beginning, middle and end. With the book, The Very Busy Spider we looked at fiction versus non-fiction and created our own spider webs to display our learning. Now we are using The Grouchy Ladybug to explore emotions, bullying and even counting! Your generosity has made all of this learning possible. Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts. We are forever grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ana.

  • Super Science and Social Studies Learners!

    Funded Oct 26, 2015

My students struggle everyday, and it's generous people like yourselves that put a smile on their faces and make their day a little better. They have been truly enjoying their science and social studies magazines. With these magazines they are able to learn about the past and the present. They have been reading with more confidence and enthusiasm, and really enjoying all of the interesting and diverse topics. My students and I are very grateful for this gift you have given us. Thank you for making us not only happy, but also more motivated learners. Happy New Year!”

  • Super Readers Need a Super Library!

    Funded Dec 20, 2013

I wanted to take the time to thank you for your kindness and generosity. Your generous donations have allowed us to purchase books that have vastly improved the quality of our class library. We have numerous non-fiction and fiction texts which will not only help my students be prepared for the state English Language Arts test, but also help them keep up with their peers in general education classrooms.

We purchased all of the text exemplar titles based on the new Common Core Standards for both the third and fourth grade. Some of the titles include, Tuck Everlasting, The Birchbark House, The Secret Garden, and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, just to name a few. These texts will open up a whole new world of figurative language and theme that my students are just beginning to explore. All of these titles will transport my students to far off places and take them on exciting adventures.

We also purchased nonfiction texts that will let them explore the intricacies of grammar, as well as take them on journeys into biology, ecology, anthropology and history. All of these texts are on varying reading levels, which will help all of my students access the literature and all it has to offer.

Your donations are a testament to the kindness that exists out there in the world. My students are so lucky to have so many people looking out for them, ensuring that they have what they need to succeed. I hope my students continue to grow into thoughtful and generous people like you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Ana.
