Funded Feb 17, 2022THANK YOU for your contribution to my classroom. As a special education teacher, creating an environment that caters to the diverse developmental needs of each student can be quite challenging. It often involves creatively establishing non-traditional centers, regulation strategies, and visual cues to facilitate school-based tasks. This task becomes particularly daunting when relying on the limited budget of the $250 classroom fund provided at the beginning of the year.
Sensory tools play a crucial role because many students with developmental challenges struggle to regulate their emotions, mental processes, and physical needs, especially when faced with challenging tasks. We can all empathize with those moments when we're at work, and we'd rather relax on a beach. The stress and discomfort that arise with an influx of tasks can be difficult for some to manage.
These sensory tools go beyond providing visual enjoyment and tactile play. They empower my students to choose what they need for comfort, calmness, and safety. Having access to these materials creates an environment of trust and stability. This foundation allows them to center themselves when faced with more challenging concepts, fostering the ability to move forward with confidence. We would not be able to do so without your attention and support.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Douglas
