  • First Graders Need Number Lines!

    Funded Dec 23, 2024

Thank you for your extremely generous donation! The dry erase markers were a huge hit at the dry erase drawing center. My students loved the number lines! We have a sturdy set for class and I sent home a plastic version for home. Right now, we are working on efficient adding and subtraction strategies. We are learning that we can count up or count down on number lines to solve equations. For example, to solve 11-8, kids can jump up on the number line from 8-11 since it will help them get their answer quicker than starting at 11 and counting back 8. I am so excited to use these number lines in class, and my students were thrilled to take number lines home with them. Thank you so much for your support!”

  • First Graders Need a Pocket Chart!

    Funded Dec 3, 2024

Thank you so much for your extremely generous donation! Thanks to you, I will be able to display more glued sounds and diphthongs! This pocket chart came in handy today when we were doing a Fundations lesson using sound cards to make nonsense words. My class was really excited by how large our new pocket chart is. I am looking forward to using it all year during our Fundations phonics lessons. Thank you for supporting my students. These cards will help my students to become stronger readers. We appreciate your generosity!”

  • First Graders Love Birds!

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous donation! Today, our daily vote was between robins and Eastern towhees since they look similar. I used the cards from my deck of bird cards. I ended up spilling the beans to the class that I had a set of cards for them for the holiday and I ended up giving them out today since I saw how excited everyone was! I know that my students are going to absolutely love looking at these bird cards and learning facts about the birds on the back! I also know that kids are going to be on the lookout for these birds when they are outside! Thank you for helping us learn more about birds! We appreciate your generosity!”

  • First Graders Need Graphic Novels!

    Funded Oct 4, 2024

Thank you so much for your extremely generous donation! My students were excited to see the new books when they came back from Thanksgiving break! They were especially excited about the Pea, Bee, and Jay books which chronicle the adventures of a pea, a bee, and a blue jay! They were also excited to look books from the Pizza and Taco books. These books are above many of the students' reading abilities at the moment, but as we learn more phonics rules, more students will be able to read them independently. They are still able to enjoy and comprehend the books since they are graphic novels. Thank you for your generosity! I know that these books will become beloved favorites of ours! Donors like you are our heroes!”

  • First Graders Want to Learn About Cesar Chavez!

    Funded Nov 3, 2024

Thank you for your extremely generous donation. Thanks to you, my students were able to receive a book about the farm workers' rights activist Cesar Chavez after we had a visit by a student's grandma who worked for Cesar's organization. I am thrilled that my students learned about this influential activist. Thank you for helping to deepen my students' knowledge by donating this book. I hope that my students are inspired to make the world a better place as well. We appreciate your generosity! Donors like you are our heroes!”

  • Bookworms Need a New Bookcase

    Funded Aug 14, 2024

Thank you for your extremely generous donation. I ended up realizing that I measured the width of the bookcase, but not the height! The bookcase I originally wanted, was really meant for toddlers! Luckily, I realized my mistake in time and I was able to cancel the order and get classroom supplies. Additionally, I was able to get a bookcase from someone who was getting rid of their bookcase. Thanks to you, I was able to order flair pens, paper towels, and Sharpie markers. We use the flair pens daily for writing, illustrating, and solving math problems. I wanted to send you some of the writing and drawing we did with these pens. Thank you again for all your help. Donors like you are our heroes!”

  • First Graders Need STEM Building Kits!

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

Thank you so much for your extremely generous donation! The dry erase markers and the PicassoTiles magnetic building stick construction sets arrived today! Students were thrilled that the dry erase drawing center was able to be reopened! The building kit was a huge hit! The four students who were able to go to that center had an absolute blast! I also love that they got to experience that like poles on a magnet repel. We are looking forward to receiving the additional building kit. Thank you for supporting my kid engineers! • First Graders Need More Math Materials!

    Funded Nov 1, 2024

Thank you for your generous donation! We will use the addition expression cards in our upcoming addition strategies unit. These cards are essential for the lessons in the book, but they aren't provided to the school. I used the consonant, vowel, consonant magnets yesterday with a small group of students. They closed their eyes, picked out a magnet, tapped out the sounds, and wrote the word. They had lots of fun while practicing encoding their sounds. I am looking forward to using more of the materials that you provided. Thank you for supporting my students! We appreciate your kindness!”
