  • Hear It With Your Ears See It With Your Eyes

    Funded Feb 28, 2019

I am so blessed by all the people that want to give to the schools to make the children's learning paths successful. I utilize this listening center in my reading group rotation in many ways. With the books on Bluetooth, tape, or CD the kids can hear the expression and fluency of characters coming to life and the illustrations being described by the wind blowing in the background or farm animals making farm noises on a farm..voices being changed to acknowledge different characters.

I also encourage the kids to record themselves responding to questions or reading and listening to their own fluency and expression as they read. I have purchased a tiny microphone that can be hooked to the device. They enjoy hearing themselves read it back and often giggle at their mistakes or a good character voice!

Since I had no way of amplifying our music at school, I purchased a player that had Bluetooth so that we could sing and dance for fun or musicals ....I let them choose songs at recess and they dance and sing on the playground and it cuts back on behavior issues...

It is always a must in the classroom to have a CD player..especially in the lower grades...I have not had one that played CD's for three years...yes..I could have bought one I suppose...but thanks to the donors like you ....I can spend my money on other needed things for the kids.

Once again, thank you for this donation to our school and classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Turnage

  • What? The Teacher Said We "Could" Print It?? No Way!

    Funded Nov 18, 2018

I can certainly say that my kids are so excited that they actually get to print!! For years, I have said we cannot print out our work because we need to save our ink. Now, because of generous donations I can see them smile when they get to print out the work that has been completed or certificates of passing a level or goal to show their parents. We are now going to begin typing narratives to publish class books using different genres. We are also planning on using the scanner part of the printer to scan in illustrations to accompany our writing. It really just makes it easier In the classroom to have our very own printer. Thank you so much!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Turnage

  • Math Common Core In A "Kit" Is What I'm Trying To "Git"

    Funded Aug 21, 2013

I just wanted to thank you all again for your donations to my math resources. The kids are so excited to have them in our learning centers. We use them daily in our small group sessions and the wipe off pouches work so well. I sent the learning cards home as a game for parents to play with their children and had positive feedback from them as well. One parent wants to order her child a set for Christmas so I directed her to the lakeshore website.

I received over 100 wipe off math cards with every objective on them and decided to use them in our table baskets for a center to do if they complete their work early. I feel good about this not being a busy worksheet and it's more game oriented for them. They work individually or sometimes in pairs if they are peer tutoring. I also received manipulative's for my volunteers to use when remediating with some of the students.

This resource has benefited my class with standard based skills to practice when assigned work is completed. They take the initiative to use these games because it is fun!

I am going to order some more pouches that wipe off so easily for more learning centers in the future. I thank you so much for all of your donations.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Turnage

Meadow Lane Elementary has been my home for 16 years in the same classroom located beside Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. I have the privilege of teaching at one of the oldest schools in the county with dedicated teachers and staff. I am one of six multi-age teachers in the county that works with first and second grade students in the same classroom working at their learning level according to ability not grade or age. It makes me happy to be in the classroom with them everyday and watch them grow and learn in different ways using small group settings most of the day. I hope to write many grants in order to acquire materials needed for all types of learning and supplement our classroom needs with help from donors like you.
