Keeping Up With the News in Middle School
Funded Aug 2, 2023I can't thank you enough for your support of my classroom and students. My students really look forward to receiving these Scholastic News. They enjoy reading them and it really engages them in reading. It keeps them up to date on the news that's on their level.
I know the students don't like to read, so having something like this really helps to motivate them and gets them to read. In today's school day it's nice to be able to get off of the curriculum for a few days and read something that is more on their level.
Again, thank you so much for your support of my classroom and my students. We really appreciate it!”

Funded Aug 3, 2023Thank you so much for helping out with supplies for my students. My students come from one parent homes or they're living with a guardian. Sometimes for some students money is tight and this is such a huge help for them.
Seeing the students using the materials that you helped purchase, is great. They don't treat the folders or highlighters poorly, they actually take care of them. It's nice to see them without the stress or the feeling of judgement because they might not have something. This way I was able to help the students who needed it and they don't have to feel ashamed.
The parents also appreciate the help. For some it is a lot to have to purchase supplies.
Thank you so very much for helping my students be able to be unashamed and successful!”

Funded Aug 2, 2023Thank you so much for helping me provide motivation tools for my students. I have been using the Airheads for the top scoring on the reading program. The kids are loving being able to work towards something for doing their work and doing it well.
The 8th graders all have poor motivation because they don't want to admit that they have issues with their reading. So having the candy, the headphones, and the stickers all allow them to have something to actually work for.
The punch cards are being used to keep track of their successes. I can't imagine not having something like this to use in order to motivate them to do their very best!
Thank you so much again for helping me help my students!”

Funded Jul 6, 2023We really can't thank you enough. With your help, we were able to stock our cabinet in the clinic with the pads, tampons, and underwear that our girls need. This is such a huge help because most of our girls just go home or stay home during that time of the month because they're embarrassed about having their period. Now if they need a fresh pair of underwear they can have that and whatever hygiene product they need. This will allow them to stay in school and focus on their education rather than stay home and miss important teaching.
I know when the boxes started coming into school, the school nurse was so excited. She even went to a meeting of school nurses and bragged that we had our cabinet with what we received!
I cannot thank you enough for helping our girls and our school with these hygiene products!”

Our 8th Grade Ceremony Needs To Be Sweet
Funded Apr 21, 2023Thank you so much for helping make our 8th grade celebration a success. The students loved the added touch that was just for them. The candy that was included in the box were definitely some of their favorites!
The students said they'd much rather have something like this than a medal that they won't ever hang up or they'd just throw away!
The teachers who saw the boxes said that they loved the idea and they knew the kids would love them as well.
Parents were happy that they received the boxes and said that it was a nice touch that every 8th grader got one!
Thank you so much for being a part of our 8th grade celebration!”

Making Strides in Sports With Uniforms
Funded Jan 17, 2023Thank you so much for funding my project that helped me make the uniforms for our players and cheer team. Our kids were so excited! The Cricut and heat press made making the uniforms so much easier. It also helped keep money in our budget so that we can purchase the other things that they need to have a great season.
The kids were thrilled when they received their jerseys and shirts. The administrators were told that the kids looked great by parents and fans alike. That made them very happy as well!
I know with this machine the opportunities are endless and the school will get many years of use from it!
Thank you so much for your support of our kids and our school, we really do appreciate it.”

Scoping Out News and Information Through Scope Magazine
Funded Dec 20, 2022Thank you so much for supporting my classroom! This magazine is the only magazine that I have found that keeps my student's attention! They like to read and discuss the articles. This is great because it is really hard to find text that they are interested in. Right now our students are so into their phones so reading is not a priority for them. This magazine changes that for them. They didn't groan when we read an old one that another teacher had from last year. That's when I knew I needed to go ahead and set up a project to see if I could get it for them this year.
Our school doesn't allow the students to go on computers on Wednesdays, so this will be a great addition to their reading times on Wednesday! I'm so excited to receive it so we can begin reading it!
Thanks again, I really appreciate your support of my classroom and my students.”

Funded Oct 21, 2022I cannot thank you enough for your support of my classroom and my coworkers classrooms. When I let the other teachers know that the project had been funded, they were thrilled. Being able to motivate these students to be the best they can be is an amazing thing. A few of our students don't get that kind of support at home, so we are their cheerleaders!
Today is Wednesday and we don't use technology at school on Wednesdays. So we read novels. My 8th graders don't like to read out loud at all. Well I put a few boxes of Nerds and some Starburst on my desk. The students asked what the candy was for. I told them whoever reads today, gets to choose a piece of candy. The students all had their hands up to read! I could have cried! I was able to get them to volunteer to read because of a small piece of candy! I couldn't do it without people like you though!
I can't wait until the rest of the rewards come in, the kids are going to be so happy!
Thanks to you and your support, kids will start to love reading! To me, that's huge and I thank you so much!”

Funded Jun 21, 2022Thank you so much for donating to my project. With your support I am able to add this amazing resource to my Intensive Reading class with my 6th graders. They are loving the articles and doing great at using the text to answer questions. This is so helpful for me as this shows me that they can go back into the text and find the answers. This is an important skill since the state of Florida's F.A.S.T. test requires this.
Being able to have this resource also breaks up the computer work that they are required by the district to do. This is so important as it allows them to interact with each other when we read out loud and when they read the articles together as a group. This to me is important since kids today spend a lot of time in front of screens. Being able to have Scholastic News each month, allows for less screen time! The students interact with each other after we read and they pair up and discuss what they thought. This allows for real conversation. It also allows me to monitor their conversations and I love that they love discussing the most recent article!
I cannot thank you enough for this awesome resource! It's amazing to have and it definitely pertains to this age group!”

Funded Aug 9, 2022I just cannot thank you enough! The students are so thrilled to be able to pick something out of the treasure chest when they finish a component of their reading program. I am almost out of some of the rewards as they are so popular with the students! They're really loving the colorful pens and the fidget toys. Even though they are middle school students, they still like to be rewarded even though some of them act all tough! This is a tough age to teach, but I am really enjoying it. I'm also loving the excitement of them achieving their goals and setting the next goal. I really think that having the rewards is a huge part of that. They have something to work towards instead of just doing work like they do in other classes. It gives them drive and motivates them to be better readers!
The students are getting closer and closer to reading on grade level which is my goal! I have 6th and 8th grade students who are not on grade level, but many of them are making huge strides to get there. I attribute some of that to your help and support of my classroom! Thank you so much.”
