Help Keep Our Air Cleaner!
Funded Aug 8, 2021I was overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who donated to purchase our HEPA air purifier. It has been busy cleaning the air of possible mold spores, dust, viruses and other air contaminants that may be circulating in our classroom everyday. Breathing cleaner, purified air is just one additional layer of protection to make our room healthier for all of us. We love having fresher air and the soft, quiet hum of the purifier provides comfort to some of the students as well. Thank you again for showing kindness and support to help our second grade students!”

Organized and Ready to Learn
Funded May 4, 2021Thank you for helping me collect the materials I need to keep my students organized and prepared to learn. The folders are used as a communication tool between home and school to carry graded work, a daily calendar, money and important notes. These high quality of folders last all year and save money in the long run. My students love using the scented gel pens and highlighters to mark up evidence in their reading passages and make notes. Since we have so many stations around the classroom, I love keeping them stocked with sharpened pencils. We have been using the same rulers for the last eight years and only had about six left to use in math. My students now will have their own rulers during our measurement unit. I appreciate you for supporting public education and helping my second graders!”

Funded May 4, 2021My students absolutely loved the bubble sensory toys. It's the rage with young children now, so to incorporate it with learning is extremely engaging! We used the toys to create multiplication arrays and worked problems. They were able to see the answer and understand the concept of multiplication. They also used them to break down the phonemes and help them spell out words to see the sounds represented by the bubbles. I left some of the toys out for students to use to help them refocus or calm down if needed.
We all love having storage for our Chromebooks, and I look forward to using these for many years to come. The two shelves take up minimal space yet keep the kids' Chromebooks safe and organized when not in use.
Thank you for supporting public education and helping me to improve my teaching and classroom organization.”

Funded Dec 24, 2020The Seesaw Plus subscription has been one of the most valuable resources this year during the pandemic. Since Covid has changed the way we teach, interact and communicate with parents, Seesaw has been the bridge to make connections and share student learning. The pictures I shared with you are some screenshot examples of just a few ways I have implemented Seesaw Plus with my students. With this subscription, students are able to post ANY activity, picture, video, assignment and record their voices to explain their thinking. They also read passages aloud, record them and complete comprehension activities. I am able to take anecdotal notes on each child, comment on their work, provide academic feedback on ways to grow and send back work if it needs to be corrected or completed. Parents can also see everything their children completes and hear their children reading. Since parents can't volunteer in school this year, I am able to create videos to post on Seesaw, and they can see what students are learning at school. Parents and students can communicate through Seesaw by making comments below each post as well. With this subscription, I am able to create and save up to 500 activities for students to complete in class and/or virtually. There have been many times students had to quarantine for weeks, and we had to teach virtually as well. Seesaw has been the way students complete and submit work to me. I have also recorded myself teaching lessons and created HOW-TO videos to show my students how to use their Chromebooks and programs. They can easily watch these videos through Seesaw! My second graders love using Seesaw, and their parents are able to feel a part of the classroom this year. Thank you for supporting public education and purchasing the Seesaw Plus subscription for my students!”

Virtual Learning
Funded Aug 26, 2020Last week, our county decided to move all students to virtual learning. Because of your generous donation to my project, I was ready!! The ring light and extra monitor was just what I needed to make virtual learning a success. Students were able to clearly see me with the quality lighting. I had the students on my computer screen during our live TEAMS meetings and the monitor was used as my teaching board for students to see from their Chromebooks at home. Without the additional monitor you funded, virtual teaching would have been very difficult! Thank you again for supporting public schools and allowing me to be completely prepared for our switch to live online learning. I appreciate you!”

Digital Learning Created by Teachers for Teachers
Funded Oct 26, 2020I have purchased so many amazing resources already on TeachersPayTeachers created by teachers! So far, my students have completed a digital field trip to learn about different regions of the United States, created math base ten block pictures on their Chromebooks and completed a maps and globes Escape Room. Since our school moved to 1:1 technology this year, my students have learned how to use Chromebooks, and I continue to learn new innovative ways to implement programs and activities to inspire creative learning. I have loved creating virtual classrooms, but I spend many hours doing this each week. With the TPT gift cards, I am able to purchase some virtual classrooms and tweak them to meet the needs of my second graders. Thank you for funding my project and making all of this possible!”

Funded Oct 16, 2020Since we have a beach-themed classroom, our mascot is a sea turtle named Maho. They love our mascot, so I decided to write this project so each student can have their own sea turtle at home. My second grades absolutely loved receiving the plush sea turtles to use as reading buddies at home, and I created an adoption certificate for students to name and adopt their turtles. I have already received multiple texts and emails from parents telling me their child really enjoys reading aloud each night to their turtles, and they have been amazed how much reading their child has completed each night now!
Thank you for funding the highlighters and folders for them to organize their reading logs and highlight key information when needed. The comfortable chair has been wonderful to use at my reading table, and students even have the chance to use it as well. I appreciate you for supporting public education and motivating my students to want to improve in reading.”

Science, Transformations and Sound
Funded Oct 5, 2020Thank you for supporting public education and helping me to improve my classroom!
We just completed our study about Abraham Lincoln, and the class loved having the cutout of Abe in our room. We also used the Saguaro Cactus cutout during our desert study, and Space Shuttle model when we learned about astronauts in space. It's essential to have visuals for students to help them better understand difficult concepts. The green screen is an amazing addition for our second grade students. During our desert study, we had our students pretend to write a postcard home as if they were visiting the desert. We used the green screen to take their picture in the "desert" and added it to their postcards. We look forward to using the green screen for other creative and thematic photos and videos. I love having the essential oil diffuser to improve the scent of the room and help the students breathe better. I was able to cover my two old reading tables with the self-adhesive pearl grey wood contact paper, and my tables now look brand new. My second graders even noticed the amazing upgrade.
I appreciate all you do for our schools and students!”

Restock Our Creative Learning Transformations and Science Lab
Funded Oct 19, 2020My students absolutely LOVE finding out it's time for a room transformation!
We recently set up the room using the lanterns, star projector, camping signs and lantern string lights to help create an outdoor camping room. During this time, students were able to read with flashlights and enjoy the sounds and sights of the great outdoors.
We read all about Abraham Lincoln last week and completed an in-depth study on his early life, adult life, accomplishments and character traits. The students loved having the Lincoln cardboard cutout in front of the room to serve as inspiration during the study.
In December, we will transform the classroom to look like Ellis Island, and the class will rotate to different stations as if they are immigrants arriving to America. As they arrive into the New York Harbor, they will be greeted by the Statue of Liberty cutout.
In the Spring, I will use the remaining materials to set up a Glow Room, Animal Safari, and Construction themed room transformation. I know they will be thrilled to learn this way, and I thank you for your generous support in improving public education.”

Bee Bots, Books and Hands-on Activities
Funded Mar 6, 2020My students absolutely loved programming the Bee Bots during our maps and globes unit. Their mission was to program the robots on a grid map using cardinal directions and then see if their programming directional skills could lead the Bee Bot to the correct locations on the map. We will use the Bee Bots later this year for various math activities and forces and motion science lessons as well.
The books, human body model, rocks & fossils' box, and math game were all added to our weekly Book Bag Adventures. Last spring, I wrote another DonorsChoose project for canvas bags and more books. I made twenty-eight thematic bags and filled them with a balance of fiction and nonfiction books and hands-on activities. This week, students selected a bag to check out, and all of my students were thrilled to take their bags home to explore and read!
I loved seeing my sweet students inspired to learn with these donations. Thank you for supporting public education and making learning more fun for my second graders.”
