I have 17 terrific, hard-working, well behaved students this year. My students attend a title-one school that has an extremely high percentage of free and reduced lunch. The students at our school have the daily struggle of language acquisition along with the tough curriculum already required. Because the parents often speak only Spanish, getting help with reading and writing at home is difficult. This year some of the teachers came together to analyze last year's AIMS (Arizona Instrument to Measure Standards) data and found that the weakest areas as a school are Expository Text and Story Elements. Therefore, Expository text and Story Elements are our focus this school year.
