It is hard to find engaging books with topics of interest for 4th and 5th graders when they are reading at 1st and 2nd-grade levels. I have been lucky to discover hi-lo books by Red Rhino Publishing. These books are at first-grade reading levels but are meant for the interest levels of 4th and 5th graders. I believe that by having more engaging texts in the classroom, I will be able to help these students find reading interesting again so that they will be motivated to grow as readers. My students think they are dumb and not worthy of learning. This is just NOT the case! They are smart young minds that need the right resources to take off as learners. They need to believe in themselves and have the book at their fingertips to help them! By helping me build up an appropriate classroom library, I know they can achieve the goal of seeing their self-worth and see just how much potential they have.
