Supplies such as popcorn, cotton candy, espresso and vending machines allow my students to have real, hands on experiences dealing in costumer service, money management and job skills. Using these activities students maintain, sell and manage money from the sales of the products at school and school events. Students become small business owners while at school and are able to practice all related employability skills and tasks in order to become skilled, capable and proficient employees during and after High School. These skills easily transfer into entry level jobs post High School. Students learn soft skills such as hygiene, customer service and communication skills as well as more hard skills such as money management, safety and work place specific skills. The skills practiced using the sales from these products will transfer to any job site and increase the likelihood of student employment in the future. Using these hands-on activities, it is our goal to give each student the skills they need to be productive members of society after graduation. The Octopus watch is a devise that allows students to set up a visual schedule in order to stay on task while working. It gives students a schedule that is both visual and auditory so that each student has a personalized plan to stay on task while working. Similarly, the coin sorter and counter gives students who do not have the skill set to count money a way to participate in this aspect of running a small business.
