Kindergarten students learn through doing. One of the biggest ways they learn is through talking and hands-on playing. In our class, what others may think of as toys are really tools for learning. Children need tools that they understand and to which they can relate. This project will give my class of diverse students tools that look like them, however they may look. It will provide them with examples of careers to which they can aspire and people to play like they do. Through these toys, they can dream and become whomever they may want to be. Our learning core states, "Students will recognize and describe how individuals and families are both similar and different." Additionally, it states, "Use words and phrases acquired through conversations." These are both done through participation "in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about kindergarten topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups."
