  • Keepin' It Fresh!

    Funded Nov 29, 2024

Thank you very much for your generous donation! With your support, this project was able to acquire a brand new curriculum for my senior students. They chose to take an elective with me in the first semester, and for the second semester, they opted for Parenting and Child Development. Your contribution allowed me to purchase a curriculum focused on Parenting, and my seniors are truly enjoying it!

The students are more engaged in this elective than in any of their other classes. We are simulating parenting scenarios and creating our own booklets, resembling parenting manuals. My students will also have the opportunity to use RealCare baby dolls to apply their training in a practical way! This unit is completely different from any they have experienced before and will provide them with valuable skills for the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Adams

  • Functioning Fundamentals for Freshman

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

Thank you so much for this donation! We have been reading this book and following the workbook as well. The students have had excellent discussions with the book during class and we are even able to popcorn read to work on reading level. The book itself resonates with the students as it is written in teen language. Watching the students work through the book to see themselves in some parts and learn how to make changes and adjustments, we truly feel was the best answer for our Freshman.

If we can get our Freshman aware of themselves and what skills and tools they need to be successful, we can encourage them to have a better academic career in high school. Thank you so much for helping to support our Freshman this year at Utica Academy of Science.”

  • Comfy Cozy Classroom

    Funded Jan 6, 2023

Thank you so much for this donation of furniture! We have been able to use this project for meetings with students, collaboration spots, incentives and more. The students having a different space to feel comfortable and work has made the classroom environment more inviting. My students have actually asked me to try and get more sets to place around the room, and a large table in the middle with chairs. I love their idea! So it looks like I have more work to do.

When the package arrived, the boxes were dropped off to my room and the students were so excited, they asked if they could open them and assemble the furniture. My 10th grade students assembled the chairs and couch and were unbelievable excited! They dubbed our new set up, "The Living Room Dupe". It's improved on getting to class on time with first come first serve seating, and it has helped them complete more work allowing a comfortable space and incentive to sit there. Thank you again so much!”

  • Absorbing the Lessons Each Book Gives You

    Funded Apr 15, 2022

Thank you so much for this donation of books for my Health Classroom library! These books are relatable to my students on levels from mental health, suicide, depression, immigration, different cultures, social wellness, discrimination and more. As a school with a high population of students from the middle east as well as inner city, there is a book that every student can relate to.

I have collaborated with ELA as cross-curricular for these books allowing scholars choice in their reading so they do free-reads on Fridays in ELA with the books. In class, students are able to choose a book and reflect on the health topics we are learning about through the book. Some students have even requested to sign out books to take home and read. They are sharing with others about the books and their peers are requesting them as well!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Adams

  • Creating Our Classroom

    Funded Sep 7, 2021

Thank you so much for your donation of tables to our classroom! Not only have the other teachers admired our stations for class, but the students have as well. We have a student center for turning in work that is clear and open and a space in the middle where work is handed back. We also have a station for students that holds our sign out sheet, extra pencils, masks, hand sanitizer and the teacher mailbox for students to submit teacher notes. On the other side of the room, the table holds plants and the pencil sharpener to allow for our room to feel homier. There is no storage in our rooms, no shelving other than a couple of metal book cases. I hope to one day finish creating an environment that is open and welcoming for my students to allow for growth in health class and create a level of comfort and openness to the topics we discuss.”

  • iPads for Phys Ed: Integrating Technology

    Funded Nov 23, 2020

Thank you so much for the iPads. With COVID restrictions, students have been glued to their chromebooks in the classroom and we have been very restricted in the gym. I am able to get students who want to work with a friend together to work and those who work best independently are able to as well. The photos here have students working with QR Codes for our basketball unit. We are not allowed to play one on one, however my 8th grade students are incredibly competitive with the exception of some. This activity allowed for students to choose an independent skill to try and practice or a competitive game that followed our Covid rules. The best part is it allows students to explore different games on their own and rather than explaining every one to all students together, students can hone in on the ones they are interested in and most likely to play on their own outside of PE. It provides less repeating from myself because they focus on one task at a time, of their choice.

The students jaws hit the floor when they saw that we have tablets for PE. They said, "Coach, you got money!". As comical as that sounds, it was also a great opportunity to explain to them the Donors Choose process and how when wanting to improve something so much is important to you, you take every opportunity to seize it. My students are so excited to start slow-motion video skills sessions and independent workouts that they can control to their fitness levels and interests vs. completing the same workouts all together. They want choices and to make decisions for themselves and these tablets are giving them these options!

We cannot thank you enough for this amazing donation! My students are over the moon excited, they truly love the independence they get with tablets and they enjoy being able to assess each other rather than me doing it for them. I cannot wait for tournament play and more in our next unit of Badminton!”

  • Fresh New Look!

    Funded Oct 1, 2020

Thank you so much for helping with the "Fresh New Look"! With virtual teaching, school has looked completely different this year and mental health has been impacted significantly. With your donation, I was able to purchase and re-vamp a Mental & Emotional Health Unit that was easily understood by my students.

The Mental Health and Emotions, a Skills-Based Health Education Lesson Plan Bundle that was purchased through Teachers Pay Teachers introduced the topic in a very gentle and easily approachable plan. One of my biggest fears being online and with the mental state of many of our students through this pandemic was triggering challenging feelings and emotions. This purchase was easy to relate to the movie Inside Out and all of the material was created into virtual notebooks. While we conducted our live sessions, the students filled in these notebooks as we went along and were able to save them to their Google Drive and keep them for future reference as seen in the photos. Thank you again! I wish there was more room to share more!”

Our students need maximum engagement during their physical education lessons. When each student has their own equipment, we are able to maximize the learning process while creating less waiting time. Each class size includes twenty-five to twenty-six students. Only seeing students two to three times per week emphasizes the importance of participation in my class. Students who are standing in line waiting to use the equipment, does not allow maximum participation. These basketballs will also help assist to develop modified basketball teams for boys and girls in our school under Title 9. According to Title 9, each season that includes a boys sport must include a girls sport as well. We are building our athletic teams and are working to establish a modified girls basketball team to match the boys basketball team.
