Funded Sep 7, 2022THANK YOU THANK YOU! You have helped the OT team at my school create a Snoezelen multi-sensory room for our students. A Snoezelen, or controlled multisensory environment, is a therapy room that consists of placing the person in a soothing and stimulating environment. It helps you to explore using all of your senses with the goal of self-regulation. The Snoezelen room can provide students with the opportunity for relaxation, stimulation, and development.
Our students now have a safe space, a space that they can come and self-regulate, and explore their environment. They absolutely love this room and all of the equipment in it. Thank you again for your generosity.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Valhalla Foundation.Visual Learning Books
Funded Mar 1, 2022When I think of how to tell you how much my students love these visual learning books, I have a story that sums it up. I saw many students for after school learning last year- students that were receiving services to help them catch up after remote learning. As soon as my students would step foot in the therapy room, they would immediately as for "STICKER BOOKS!". Not only did these books provide a high level of motivation and satisfaction for my students, but they were working towards their OT goals. They worked on skills including visual scanning, fine motor coordination, and sensory processing while completing every single page. I can not thank you enough for providing my students with this experience.”

Funded Nov 5, 2019Thank you so much for your generous donations towards my most recent project. The materials provided have helped my students gain independence in their self-help skills. Many students that I work with have motor delays, leading to difficulty with tasks such as putting on their jacket, buttoning, zipping, brushing their teeth, and tying their shoes. They lacked confidence because they had to ask for their teacher's help with these activities throughout the day. In occupational therapy, we work on the underlying skills that affect their difficulty, but it is also important to work on the task itself. We have utilized the dressing vests with so many of our students to help them carryover their motor skills to manipulate their own fasteners. We use the shoe tying book with different colored laces as a way to practice tying shoes on the tabletop and with a visual aid, prior to practicing on their on feet. There have been countless other uses for all of the donated materials, and for that I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. My students and I are so grateful for your generosity, and we will keep you posted on our future successes!”

Funded Jul 29, 2019The use of the Osmo Educational System has enhanced student participation in occupational therapy sessions since the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. There are so many different ways to use this system, and so many skills targeted. These skills include hand eye coordination, executive function, visual perception, and of course academic learning.
My students are so motivated to use this high-technology method to work towards these skills. They do not even realize how hard they are working, because they are having so much fun. They often ask "how did you get this!?" or "how can I get one to use at home!?". They are very thankful when I explain that the entire system was generously donated to us to promote their learning.
I want to thank you again, from the bottom of my heart for donating to my students. Your donation is truly appreciated.”

Sensory Smart Students
Funded Jul 27, 2018I cannot thank you enough for your generosity and support with this project. All of the new materials have been put to use since the first day of the school year. Students with auditory sensitivities have been using the noise reduction headphones in class and in therapy sessions to help them focus on their work. Students that require some extra movement to learn have been using the bouncy bands on their classroom chairs. This allows them to move their bodies without losing focus or distracting their peers. Students that benefit from deep pressure input have been using the weighted lap pads throughout the school day to improve their focus.
My students were filled with joy and excitement to see that they received new materials to help them learn. They have learned how these supplies can meet their needs, and have become independent in using them in the classroom and in therapy sessions. These resources have become part of their everyday learning and we are all extremely grateful for your kindness.”

Occupational Therapy Students Striving for Success
Funded Sep 22, 2016I cannot thank you enough for your generous donation of supplies that have been used to help my students become one step closer to achieving their occupational therapy goals. The new resources have served over 70 students at my school since September 2016, and there are more to come. There were so many materials I don't know where to start! The peel-n-stick letters, as well as the magnetic boards have helped students to develop their writing skills so that they can keep up with their peers. The subtraction tower was a huge hit, working on math skills, as well as socialization and motor coordination. Some of my students request this game as a reward at the end of their session. The floor puzzles have been amazingly helpful in developing visual perceptual skills and cognitive skills. Some of my students had never done a puzzle before.
Every new resource has had an impact in one way or another. When my students first saw the new materials, their faces lit up. Myself and the other therapist I work with even had them help us unload the boxes. The excitement in the room, both ours and theirs, was palpable. Students have been extremely motivated to come to therapy and work on their goals in a variety of ways. They often request specific activities, such as the magnetic alphabet board or the rush hour logic game. We have been able to use these activities not only as a method of skill development, but as a motivational tool to encourage our kiddos to learn.
I hope you enjoyed the photos of the students at work, and I hope you truly understand how helpful this was. It was a great push to start the 2016 school year off successfully and I am so grateful for this. I will continue to do whatever it takes to help my students reach their goals, and am so glad you have contributed to helping me do this!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Toner
