It’s not about getting rid of the hands-on techniques that support art making and learning…far from it, with the addition to a class I-pad students will be able to digitally record their masterpieces on to the Seesaw App. We will combine ‘messy making’ experiences that merge paint and pixels. For the "Messy Making" Each class will create a mixed media art project inspired by the contemporary artist Romero Britto and art historian Jim Dine to then photograph their masterpieces using the class I-Pad. Students will first use the tempera paint sticks and tempera cakes to paint a colorful heart in the style of Jim Dine on drawing paper. Students will then trace their hearts with sharpie. Once finished with their bright beautiful hearts, students will cut them out and save them for the next part! The second part of the project students will practice sewing techniques using thread and needle to stitch around the edges of a fabric square making a fabric pouch. Once finished sewing students will attach there paper hearts to the fabric. Students will individually photograph their masterpiece and upload it to the Seesaw App. using the I-pad. we will then add all of their fabric squares to a quilt-like display speaking on community and togetherness. This is just one example of how these materials could be integrated into an art making experience. With the addiction of these supplies I hope to integrate the use of technology in the art room. iPads are powerful tools for art-making and creativity in the classroom and beyond. Students can engage with content in interactive ways, find information in an instant, and create their own imagery anywhere, anytime. Using digital devices, mistakes can be easily erased, experiments are easily undertaken, exploration is exciting and confidence reigns supreme.
