Award-Winning Play With Representation
Funded Apr 9, 2023I am very excited that Pipeline is now on the drama script bookshelf.
Not only will they have more scripts on the bookshelf that has roles they can specifically play but the script also inspired them to write.
We had a discussion about how there are more script about black trauma and where race is prominent in the storyline. We talked about how that those stories are important but they also talked about how they wished there was more stories that was about their culture but about them doing just their normal every day life and there could be a romantic comedy with black teens. One student said he was going to write more scripts that has those stories.”

Snackie Snacks Part 2
Funded Feb 9, 2023The snacks have truly been a game changer in classroom culture. Students feel safe in the classroom and taken care of. They were very excited to see all of the things arrive. For the less nutritious foods, I implemented them into our "treasure box" where if a student's name gets drawn for good behavior, they could get something from the treasure box. For the students who needed the more filling foods, they were able to get it in my classroom. Thank you so much for helping provide this for my classroom. It has changed my classroom culture for better.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Black History Month Partners and 3 other donors.Scripts in the Classroom for Black History Month
Funded Jan 11, 2023Having these books helped amplify the opportunity for the students to build script analysis skills. We were able to explore characterization of the characters of A Raisin in the Sun but also family relationship dynamics and comparing and contrasting with a Tyler Perry comedy stage movie.
It was awesome for the students to explore different ways to read this script. One day we would listen to the audiobook while they read along. Another day we acted out the scene while they read along. This script made opportunities to have differentiation in reading styles. The students really enjoyed it and found parts and characters relatable.”

The Third Drawer (Snackie Snacks) Project
Funded Oct 3, 2022Thank you so much for your donations to build our Take What You Need Station. It was incredibly impactful to watch the students be able to engage in the classroom without thinking about being hungry.
The students were very excited to see that there were some snacks. Once the snacks in the Take What You Need station was implemented, engagement in the classroom increased instead of grumpy students. Students who didn't normally participate in drama activities were participating.
What's next for our theatre classroom is we are going to begin dabbling into community outreach and collaborate with our local elementary school where the elementary students will design monsters and our class will sew them and make a stuffed doll replica of their design!”

Funded Jul 25, 2022Our new theatre cubes have been amazing to use in the classroom. Students have been able to explore with them in their acting scenes and using them in Drama Club for our one-act competition piece. Last week, I had a student come up and ask if they could use the cubes for a specific idea they had for their scene and I said "Go for it!"
The students were very excited when they saw the boxes. They were very anxious to get started building the boxes. When they did build the boxes, they were so excited they finished building all of them in 2 hours.
What's next for us in the classroom is the students will now be rehearsing and performing scenes from a full length play called "A Night Under the Stars." It is a similar format to "Almost Maine" but make it about camping. They will get to design for the show with costumes from home and sets that you would have camping and then get to perform the scenes in front of the class.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in helping us be a foundational step in building our program.”
