Plan for Success!
Funded Aug 15, 2024The planners you helped us acquire have had an amazing impact on our student's organization skills and sense of responsibility. They've been required to keep their planners on them at all times, filling them out in every class. In their math class, their planner is checked daily as part of their homework grade. Students value their planners and see them as an essential part of their learning experience. They keep track of important school dates, assignment due dates, and use them as hall passes.
Our teaching and admin staff are grateful for the planners as we try to reinforce the daily responsibility and self-agency of learning. Our students are thankful for their planners because they keep track of their daily experiences and hold teachers accountable to set dates. These planners have impacted us in an indescribable way and we are ecstatic to make this a tradition. Your contributions have greatly impacted our current student's last year of middle school and the ways of the Capitol!”

Funded Aug 14, 2019At my school, we use a tracking system to measure student success. We call it "Aggressive Monitoring". What this means is, after we teach the students a lesson or a skill, we break that skill down in several parts and assess the students success on each part of it. We walk from student to student, giving them a code that pinpoints their error. We don't accept questions from them, but allow them to figure out exactly what they did wrong and try to fix it independently. Most teachers waste paper and use clipboards, but my scholars and I focus on environmentally friendly ways to run our class. The iPad you donated is used to keep track of the skills we learn in an Earth- loving way. As students work on skills, I take the iPad around the class to check off each new skill that they have successfully completed. The true impact is when students can see exactly how many skills they have mastered. Of course, we use the iPad for more mundane tasks like keeping a timer or classroom reminders, but the Aggressive Monitoring tracker is the most important. The iPad assists our scholars in getting live feedback, clearing up misconceptions, and strengthening self reliance skills. It also reminds students that resources must be utilized to their fullest potential on a planet plagued with plastic waste and carbon emissions. It has helped give confidence to students, fostered a sense of independence, and raised awareness about the world we live in. For this gift, my 7th graders and I are truly thankful.”
