  • Let’s Go Subtraction: A Journey to Mastering Math!

    Funded Mar 26, 2025

Thank you so much for your generous support of my project to help students with subtraction. While my students are confident in adding, they often struggle with subtraction. Your kindness provides them with the tools they need to strengthen this important skill in a fun and engaging way.

Your generosity is making a real difference, and I truly appreciate your belief in their learning journey. Thank you for investing in their future!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nakamura

  • I Can Sound It Out!

    Funded Jun 7, 2024

The introduction of iPads into my classroom has been a game-changer, especially for my English learners. While many donors use technology at home, in our classroom, these iPads create a more engaging and interactive learning environment. They enable students to visualize complex concepts, participate in simulations, and access tailored practice through educational apps, meeting their individual learning needs.

For my English learners, the iPads have been especially beneficial. They can access language-learning apps, use translation tools, and engage with visual aids that make learning English more accessible and less intimidating. The ability to hear pronunciations and practice language skills at their own pace has significantly boosted their confidence and participation.

What excites all my students the most is the control the iPads give them over their learning. They aren't just listening to lectures; they're engaging with interactive lessons that turn learning into a fun challenge. Features like progress tracking and digital rewards make mastering new skills feel like a rewarding game.

Some students have particularly thrived with this new tool. One student, who previously struggled with traditional methods, now learns at their own pace using the iPad and eagerly participates in class. Another student with a passion for technology has become a "tech mentor," helping peers navigate the iPads. This has boosted their confidence and leadership skills.

Overall, the iPads have created a dynamic and inclusive classroom that encourages curiosity and growth, making a lasting impact on all my students, especially those learning English.”

  • Touch-Screen for Our Little Hands!

    Funded May 9, 2023

Our district requires that every student uses these math and reading tools online for 45 minutes weekly.

This online program is very student-friendly and engaging. Teachers use the data from this application to analyze students' strength and weakensses.

This year new online state tasting started from Pre-K students. Most students don't have laptops or computers at home. Students had a hard time using computer and mouse with their small hands. Having a touch screen laptop, my students could touch their answers and manipulate the screen better.

Students with limited fine motor skills could touch a laptop screen to manage their online learning.

All my students were so excited when I brought a box to my class and wanted to help me open the box. One of my students told me that today was the best day!

Thank you again for your generosity and thinking about my students.”

  • Healthy Body And Mind For The New School Year!

    Funded Dec 2, 2022

I have been using these resources to reward my students for a good behavior. I have an online system to keep track of their daily behavior, including how they behave at the cafeteria and the classroom. Usually on Friday, they have a chance to get a little treat.

All my students were so excited to see all these resources, and their faces lit up.

We have two more months to go until the end of the school year. Students are getting antsy and tired. So, to motivate the good behavior in school, these little rewards will help them remind that they need to behave in a certain way at school.

Thank you for your generosity towards my students. They really love them.”

  • No Hungry Kids in Summer!

    Funded Aug 28, 2022

This project came in just in time for Thanksgiving break. This project was originally for summer break. However, this year is the first year our school system decided to do the fall break for a week. Most students in my class receive free or reduced lunch, and these foods and snacks are perfect while students are not in school to have free breakfast and lunch.

My students were excited when I passed the plastic bags to their tables. They were supposed to be working on their workbook but couldn't take their eyes off me opening boxes.

Each student lined up to receive their goodies with a big smile. Everyone didn't forget to take their goodies home that day. I already got a message from some students' parents thanking them for food and snacks.

Thank you so much for your generosity toward my students!

With your generosity, my students have snacks during a fall break.”

  • I Know My Numbers!

    Funded Mar 11, 2022

We are learning numbers and how to add and subtract. With many skills my students have to learn, these manipulatives help them engage and be interested in math.

When the big box arrived in the classroom, my students were excited to find out what was inside. Once I cut the tapes off, they were happy to see all these colorful boxes inside. My students thought they were toys!

Once my students get ideas of numbers and basic addition and subtraction, I will introduce ten frames to teach them about grouping numbers by ten and use these skills to help them add and subtract bigger numbers.”

  • I Have Feelings

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

My students used the feeling mat and play dough to express their feelings and share them with their classmates.

I could see the sparkles in my student's eyes when they saw the boxes. Everyone wanted to help open them. When they found out that the boxes contained the play dough, all my students wanted to participate.

I am planning to save all the materials to use for this activity in the future.

I have some students who have difficulty controlling anger, and maybe I could use this project to teach these students to express their feelings in different ways.

Thank you again for your generosity!”

  • Jump for Healthy Body and Mind!

    Funded Oct 10, 2021

My class loves to go outside and use jump ropes. However, most students don't know how to use jump ropes. We are learning how to hold the handles and jump the ropes placed on the ground. We are getting better step by step.

After moving and jumping, my students enjoyed the drink and snack. We had a lesson on healthy eating. My students were surprised that healthy snacks could be yummy.

When I brought boxes to my classroom, all my students were curious to see what was inside. I told them that they were for them. They were excited and happy to help me open the boxes. Their faces lit up when they saw the colorfully packaged jump ropes and all sorts of snacks.

We will continue enjoying the jump ropes to build strength, and hopefully, it will help them focus on their academics.”

  • We All Eat Noodles!

    Funded May 21, 2021

Since this pandemic almost two years ago, many hate crimes have been happening all around the world. My students are exposed to these unfortunate events via TV, siblings, and parents. It was a perfect moment as a teacher to teach these young minds that it is wrong to attack one culture. By introducing the different cultures, my students started to understand the concepts of respecting the differences. As their teacher and as a Japanese, I shared my heritage and culture with them.

I read the book "How My Parents Learned to Eat " to my students to show that two people from different countries and cultures could share their meals by respecting each other. To make their learning engaging and more hands-on, I taught them how to use chopsticks and eat noodles.

All of my students enjoyed this wonderful experience. Even some of my quiet students loved using chopsticks and eating noodles with them.”

  • A Printer for My Students!

    Funded Dec 1, 2020

I am so grateful for your generosity.

My students work in the garden where we grow vegetables. We weed, plant, and harvest vegetables. As we do many activities, I love sharing the activities with my students in the classroom. I have a printer in my class, but it only allows black and white. Also, I don't have a way to share these pictures with the students' families. So, having this colored printer, I can connect it to my phone and print them to send them home or use the printout to display it in my classroom.

My students feel proud and love to see them in the colored printout and share these printouts with their families. Some students who are usually reluctant to do activities are excited that their activities will be printed out and displayed around the classroom.

Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Nakamura

My school is Title I. Over 90 percent of student population are on free or reduced lunch. Most of students do not have chances to explore other eating options due to their parent's low economic situation. Therefore, many of my students do not eat enough vegetables. Most of them have never had the opportunity to garden, and many of them do not have any concept of how our fruits and vegetables get to the table. Many students believe that they come from the super market. We will explore other options and I will teach them how they can plant their own vegetables at home.
