  • Building Early Number Sense in Kindergarten

    Funded May 14, 2019

Although I changed grade levels since getting this project funded, my students are still excited to get to use these materials! I have been working on figuring out ways to make these useful in third grade and I have started to create math activities that are supported with these great materials. Students will be using these to practice addition, subtraction, place value, and fractions. I have been building up anticipation while figuring out a way to use all of these materials and my students can't wait to give them a try.

The second set of materials are currently being used to build number sense in kindergarten and the students are really enjoying the materials. The way the stackers can be used to see numbers and their values are very valuable to early learners!

Thanks again for your support for this project! I hope you will consider supporting my projects in the future.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Cochran

  • Friday With Friends

    Funded Jun 22, 2018

Today we had our first Friday with Friends event! My kindergarten students were so excited to learn how to play these new games from our third grade buddies. I had told my students in the morning that we would be having a class of third graders visit us and teach us how to play games and they were so excited all day! They kept asking when the third graders would be in our classroom. Before playing, we had a class meeting all about playing games and getting along with others. Students worked together to make a list of ways they could be good partners with the third graders and really took it to heart during our actual play time. As I walked around during Friday with Friends, I saw joy on every students' face. Every kindergartener worked hard, stayed positive, and played nicely with their new third grade friend. Thank you for supporting this project and giving my students the opportunity to thrive and learn social skills. Thank you for making Friday with Friends a possibility in my classroom.”

  • Higher Order Thinking to Higher Education

    Funded Aug 24, 2017

Thanks again for supporting my classroom! We have been able to use the iPad and Osmo applications daily in our learning. This technology has helped me to differentiate instruction and provide appropriate tasks for students at many different academic levels. By linking the iPad to the Osmo software, students are active in their learning, while still using technology, which is typically a physically inactive task. These little learners have many different learning styles and this hands-on technology meets the needs of many of my students.

My students are most excited to learn how to code with the Coding Awbie application. They love creating lines of code to move Awbie across the screen. This application is completely visual so all students are able to feel levels of success, even my English language learners and non-readers. This app has been so fun to use with my students!

One student in particular is really becoming a natural at the iPad and Osmo software. This student came to kindergarten performing way above grade level in most academic areas. I have been able to create tasks for him to work on while teaching the rest of my class core subjects that this student has already mastered. The iPad and Osmo software has really been a meaningful addition to my classroom. Thanks again for your support!”

  • Projecting Our Learning

    Funded Jan 18, 2017

Thank you for supporting my classroom project!

We are using our document camera all of the time to share our learning. My students feel like celebrity authors when they get to show off their writing on our document camera because it projects live onto our smart board for all students to see. We use the document camera together with our math manipulatives when adding, making patterns, showing quantities, and so much more. Students really get to see what I'm trying to show them when I can project it onto our smart board, as opposed to holding up small manipulatives that are difficult to see.

My students work so hard every day and they love getting to share what they learn with their classmates. I have seen so much more excitement from my students when I plan lessons that incorporate our document camera. Even my students who would typically be too shy to share their work get excited to project what they know.

It takes a village to raise a child. Thank you for being a part of our village.”

  • Interactive Action!

    Funded May 12, 2016

Thank you for supporting my classroom project! The mimioteach interactive whiteboard is up and running and it provides a lot of excitement for my students every day. I have been able to use this interactive whiteboard to make learning more visual and engaging for my students. This new technology has been a great addition to my kindergarten classroom.

My students get so excited to use the "magic pen" to use on the interactive whiteboard! We have created a system together that gives each student the opportunity to use the mimioteach interactive whiteboard every day in my classroom and the kids love it!

I have had a few students who began the year hesitant to participate and share what they know, but now that I have this technology in my room they cannot wait to get a chance to be the teacher. They are able to show the whole class what they know. This has especially been a great tool for my English Language Learners who are typically shy and hesitant to share out in the classroom.

Thank you so much for your help in getting this technology into my classroom! I appreciate your willingness to give to a classroom in need.”

  • Help Us Organize Our Bilingual and Non-English Library

    Funded Nov 19, 2014

Thank you for your donation! Our book boxes have been opened, sorted, and filled with 100s of books!

The week the book boxes arrived was a big celebration for my students. They spent time opening all of the packages, taking out the bubble wrap (which they really loved) and the book boxes, and then actually sorting and organizing the boxes to meet the needs of our bilingual library. After the book boxes had been opened, my students spent time grouping the text in our library and then actually fitting them into our new book boxes.

Since this huge job has been completed, the students have been actively checking books in and out of our library. The book boxes have hugely helped with the organization of all of our books. Now that we have them, students are thinking a lot more about the types of books they like to read and are actually able to find similar books in our organized library. Thanks again for your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Cochran
