  • Helping Depressed Math Books With Too Many Problems Feel Better!

    Funded Nov 13, 2018

Thank you for your generous donations. My students were able to refine many of the mathematical concepts they learned in my class through reading. Some of the concepts include fractions, algebra, area, perimeter, volume, and many other skills. It's interesting to see what they learn from our class discussions reinforced in different text.

Reading is key in my classroom, whether it's working with anchor charts or annotating word problems, it is important for math learning. Once students are done with their group and independent work, they are allowed to sit quietly at the library while students are finishing their work.

They love our new classroom library, thanks to you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Figueroa

  • English is Important, but Mathematics is more "Importanter"

    Funded Aug 19, 2018

My students are using the notebooks donated every single day. These three subject spiral notebooks are teaching my students to be very organized. One section is the table of contents, grading policy, classroom roles/expectations, and a lot of space to take notes or staple sheets into the books.

My students were very shocked to find out their classwork notebooks were being given to them to use for the entire year. This allowed uniformity between the supplies used in class so no one feels bad for having a "better notebook." These are things that some middle schoolers worry about and it puts my mind at ease that no one will get made fun of for the supplies they have since everyone has the same notebook.

This classwork notebook will soon be filled with my problems, reflections, and activities to help my students succeed in math! This year is super important because they start the high school process next year and the grades they receive in my class will all reflect how well they used their notebook this year!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Figueroa

  • Mathematicians Need to Learn Organizational Skills Too!

    Funded Aug 8, 2018

My students and I are super grateful for your kind donations. We currently are using the white board a lot in class. It gives us the opportunity to show work and do a lot of great math on it. We also have a lot of storage space for journals, work that needs to be graded, missed work, and work that will be collected.

My students were very excited to see all of the new supplies we received. They were most excited for the organizational trays since each class is assigned their own. They also take pride in coming up to the white board to show their work for certain problems.

My students are currently working on student choice projects for Orders of Operations and each bin will be color coded for different supplies and materials so they can go up to it whenever they need during the project and get what they need.

Thank you again for believing in us!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Figueroa

  • Future Engineers of America!

    Funded Dec 12, 2017

Words can't explain how happy you have all chosen my project to donate to. Working with the Future Engineers of America has opened their eyes about the fun opportunities there are to work in STEM. After learning about the different types of bridges in the New York City-Metropolitan area, students applied those hands on skills with the Discovery Kits you all donated to.

My students were super excited when I broke the amazing news to them! We're super excited to display our work for all of the families and parents who attend our next student led conference night.

Already, my students are brainstorming for our next project to be funded. Thank you all, again!”

    With gratitude,

  • The Number Devil

    Funded Dec 11, 2017

Thank you so much for all of your donations! With your kind heart, we were able to apply interdisciplinary skills in English Language Arts and Mathematics. While reading the Number Devil, my students learned about Pascal's triangle, Fibonacci sequences, discrete mathematics and more!

My students absolutely love to popcorn read. We all call on one another randomly just to make sure we're all paying attention and following along. They even call on me sometimes!

Once again, I can't thank you enough from the bottom of my heart. My students can't get enough of The Number Devil!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Figueroa

Every single material requested will help make a difference in my students' education. Not only will I be able to teach in different learning styles with the White Board and Graph Board, but I will also be able to teach my students responsible learning and accountability for their own education. The magnetic folder bins and paper pockets are perfect for placing classwork, and homework inside for students who are absent to grab when they return back to their classroom. After setting a routine of which class has which color, and where they are located, students will be able to grab their classwork and homework and can be made up when they get back to class. The Turn In Your Work Organizer and Hard Trays will serve as places where students can drop off completed work, projects, exit tickets, and pick up their classwork folders or portfolios from the hard trays. Once everything is labeled, it will allow students to know where all of their work is stored, and where they can drop it off.
