Comfy (Reading) Chairs and Vocabulary Vibes!
Funded Jan 25, 2018You have done it again! Thank you so very much for supporting our classroom! Your generosity has contributed to a greater joy for reading as well as improved vocabulary skills. When I opened the boxes to reveal our new reading chairs and dictionaries, my students' eyes sparkled with delight! They could not wait to dive into reading on these comfy chairs! My students are able to find their own little corner of my classroom and immerse themselves in our mysteries, African American literature texts, and other wonderful worlds through reading!
The dictionaries have also proved to be an absolute blessing in our English class! Students have been able to improve their skills for looking up words to determine meaning. We have also been able to gain a greater understanding of words and their shades of meaning. Some words carry a stronger or weaker connotation and authors choose their words carefully in order to accurately express their thoughts on a subject. My students have used the dictionaries to look up unknown words, spell words we have trouble with, and look for synonyms and antonyms. Through the use of these dictionaries, my students have gained a deeper understanding of relationships between words.
These dictionaries and chairs will continue to be a presence in my classroom as a resource to deepen their love of reading! Unknown words- step aside! Books- prepare to be enjoyed for many more years (by students in comfy chairs)! Thank you again for your amazing support! You have helped create a nurturing environment where our minds can soar and our knowledge can grow! :-)”

Funded Sep 5, 2017I am so grateful for all the support my students and I have received for our English classroom. Through your generosity, my students have been able to make steady growth in English Language Arts! Through the materials you have helped us purchase, I have been able to supply my students with visuals, worksheets, and mediums through which they are able to learn skills such as context clues, firsthand vs. secondhand accounts, affixes and roots, and many more reading/grammar skills!
My students were very excited to receive these new supplies as they were able to use the materials to complete a variety activities that would be otherwise difficult to do without the basic supplies of copy paper, sharpies, colored pencils, and chart paper. I have been able to create many anchor charts that students have been able to reference in every class to recall: the five types of context clues, how to make an inference, text features in nonfiction texts, the rules for dialogue and then some!
Because of the wide use of these supplies, your impact will continue throughout the rest of the year! My students will be able to create posters/charts, stories, and complete tasks/activities to continue growing in the area of English through the use of these wonderful materials! I am so truly grateful on behalf of myself and my students! You have aided in the progress of my 75 students in my English classroom, where I strive to provide my students with opportunities, activities, and materials to experience the wonderful world of literature and literacy!
Thank you again very much! :-)”

Microscopes for Mega-Science!
Funded Aug 19, 2016Wow! What a year it has been! We have been so blessed to have received these microscopes with your generous donations. My students truly enjoyed getting to experience this wonderful tool and are eager to use them again and again! My fifth graders have learned the components of the microscope as well as how to properly handle it. We have completed microscope labs such as the letter 'e' lab (where students learn how to focus) and the plant cell versus animal cell lab.
When the materials first came in, my students were excited to open the box and get to working with the microscopes. They needed some training first, which they quickly picked up and became mini microbiologists over the course of a couple of weeks!
We are looking forward to ending our wonderful year of discovery by bringing out our microscopes out one last time to observe owl pellets and the objects we find inside them under the second setting! We have fund raised for the opportunity to dissect owl pellets and I am definitely going to integrate your wonderful gift to this exciting opportunity. I will be forever grateful for the gift of the amazing scientific tool. The goal is to bring my students to appreciate and love science, you have helped make that happen! Thank you very much! :-)”
