  • Flavors of Innovation: A Journey in Experiential Cooking

    Funded Feb 19, 2025

Having cookbooks in my classroom has profoundly transformed literacy by doing reading and writing more engaging and relevant to my student's interests. The cookbooks have become gateways for students to explore new vocabulary, understand sequencing, and practice comprehension through real-world applications. Rather than viewing reading as a passive activity, students actively analyze recipes, follow written instructions, and compare culinary techniques, which deepens their critical thinking and comprehension skills. Writing has also improved as students create recipes, reflect on cooking experiences, and write about food thoughtfully and descriptively.

Beyond technical literacy, the cookbooks have sparked curiosity about cuisine's cultural and historical roots, encouraging students to research global food traditions. This has led to vibrant discussions and presentations, with students enthusiastically sharing their findings about different regions, ingredients, and cultural influences. They're learning how to cook and developing a greater appreciation for the stories and people behind the dishes. This cultural exploration has fostered a sense of connection while strengthening their research, reading, and writing skills across subjects.”

Thank you so much for your generous support of our project, "Keep It Fresh & Cool: Classroom Refrigerator." Your kindness has made a meaningful difference in our classroom, and I'm so grateful for the impact it's had on my students.

Because of your donation, we now have a reliable refrigerator that allows students to safely store their food and ingredients throughout the day. Having this refrigerator in the classroom has created new opportunities for learning and organization. It's helped us manage materials more effectively and allowed students to focus on their tasks without the added stress of food storage concerns.

  • Dash, Pinch, & Sprinkle: Cooking Up Literacy

    Funded Dec 10, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support of our project, "Dash, Pinch, & Sprinkle: Cooking Up Literacy." Your contribution has made a meaningful and lasting impact on my classroom, and I'm thrilled to share just how transformative this experience has been for my students.

Thanks to your donation, we were able to bring new materials and resources into our culinary classroom, which have not only enhanced hands-on learning but also deepened students' connection to literacy through food. From cookbooks and recipe cards to food-themed literature and writing tools, our classroom has become a space where reading and cooking blend seamlessly.

Students have been more engaged than ever—reading recipes with purpose, analyzing texts about food culture and nutrition, and even writing their own reflections and creative food stories. It's been inspiring to watch their literacy skills grow in such a fun and practical way. They read more fluently, follow multi-step directions confidently, and expand their vocabulary through culinary terms and food writing.

Even more exciting is how this project has helped build a stronger sense of community in our classroom. Students collaborate more effectively, communicate clearly, and take pride in their work. These experiences are clearly building not only better readers and writers but also more confident chefs, thinkers, and leaders.

Your kindness and generosity have genuinely made a difference. Thank you for believing in this vision and helping us cook up a love of literacy, one dash, pinch, and sprinkle at a time.”

  • Together We Feed: A Community Grocery Giveaway

    Funded Nov 13, 2024

The Together We Feed a Community Grocery Giveaway had a profound and lasting impact on my students. The opportunity to come together as a team to pack bags filled with nutritious food gave them a sense of purpose and helped foster a strong sense of community. Each student played a key role, whether sorting and packing the food or contributing to the creative process of making signs to prompt the giveaway. Watching them take ownership of the project and work together with such enthusiasm and teamwork was incredible.

This experience also helped instill in them a deeper understanding of the importance of giving back and supporting those in need. By actively participating in the event, my students gained a sense of pride and accomplishment, knowing that their efforts were making a tangible difference in the lives of others. It was a truly impactful experience that strengthened their bond as a group and left a lasting impression on their hearts.”

  • Feast Your Eyes: "Foodography Unleashed!"

    Funded Jun 26, 2023

Thank you for making this project a reality for our students. The resources you helped provide have transformed our classroom experience and sparked a deeper love for learning.

The technology introduced through this project has opened new doors for our students. While many of them are familiar with using technology for entertainment at home, accessing these tools in the classroom allows them to explore creative, academic, and practical applications.

What excites them most is the hands-on, real-world connection that technology provides. For example, in my classroom, students use digital tools to explore global cuisines, research recipes, and even create presentations. Seeing them light up when they realize how technology helps them bring their ideas to life is inspiring.”

This project will allow me to teach cultural diversity by opening minds, raising awareness, and encouraging diversity through food. Items requested for International Cultural Cuisine will be used for teaching students how to prepare and cook Italian, European, Mediterranean, and Spanish Cuisines. Food functions as a universal language, allowing students to travel the world without leaving their immediate surroundings. Students learn best about different people and languages through first-hand experience. Students are sensory beings who learn through the experiences of touch, sight, smell, hear and taste. It’s challenging to incorporate all five senses into a cultural lesson but not when you let students experience new cultures through cuisine.
