My goal is to create a more welcoming classroom environment. Most classrooms, regardless of how well decorated they may be, create a wall of apathy and resistance for students. Imagine walking into a classroom that reminded you more of a Starbucks than a school. How awesome would that be? In order for true learning to take place, students must have positive feelings towards their environment. I firmly believe that typical classroom desks cause students to see a classroom as an institution rather than a place of imagination and creativity. We often speak about wanting our students to express their individualism. But how can they do this when we standardize everything? This furniture will allow my students to maximize their creativity and fulfill their academic potential through the ability to collaborate more easily with their fellow students, and it will remove the learning barrier of apathy and resistance. Additionally, this furniture will allow the students with extra energy or special needs to stand or move more freely about the classroom if they choose.
