  • Secret Stories for Spring Lake First Grade

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students absolutely love Secret Stories. I have the large cards for each story on a bulletin board and I also hope to be able to purchase the smaller flash cards so it's easier for me to share each story. It's so exciting for my students when they find a secret in their readings. I'm hoping Secret stories will help change my phonics instruction. Your donations have helped my students unlock the secrets to help make them better readers. Once again thank you so much for thinking of my students and myself!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Davis

  • Books We can Actually Read

    Funded Mar 30, 2023

As our school transitions into a LETRS based program, we are realizing the easy reader books we have been providing our students do not emphasize the correct phonics skills.

The books we received after your generous donation are perfect for our students who are learning to use decoding instead of guessing, phonics knowledge instead of picture clues and looking at the words instead of just the first letter.

We have been reading with partners and individually with the new books. My students have felt successful when reading them. Thank you!”

  • Buddy Reading With Our Favorite Characters

    Funded May 4, 2022

What's better than cuddling up with a good book? Cuddling up with a plush character that the book is based on!

We have old favorites like Curious George, Corduroy, Clifford, Piggy and Gerald. We also have some new friends like the Dragon who loves tacos, Arnie the Donut and the Fly Guy.

When I have a read aloud that has a matching plush animal, I will choose a student who needs a little extra support to hold it. Sometimes I will spin the "Wheel of Names" and one lucky child gets the opportunity to hold the character during the read aloud.

This project has been so fun! Thank you for your support! My sweet students have loved hugging a fun book character stuffy while they are reading a book.”

  • Becoming Resilient Through Art and Community

    Funded Jan 21, 2022

Thank you for donating money to help my class. The big thing that impacted my classroom is replacing the 20 year old classroom rug. The new rug is bright and cheerful and a wonderful rug to gather together on to read books, learn and play.

We also have been using the art supplies to create new and fun art pieces using mediums that we have never used before. We have been able to integrate, writing, art, science and social studies using the lovely art supplies.

I have also implemented a new behavior management plan using the miniature creatures. My students have really been working hard to earn those sweet toys.

    Thanks again for your support.”

  • Am I Learning or Playing? Making Literacy Fun

    Funded Dec 29, 2021

Thank you for supporting our class. We have loved using these supplies to support our literacy learning.

We use the "Monkey sticks" to bend and shape into our sight words. Monkey sticks are wax colored string that are easy to bend and make shapes and letters with.

We use the dice to help us "roll" words both nonsense and real that we can practice decoding. The awesome thing about these dice are they have blends, digraphs and vowels teams printed together on the dice. This gives us opportunities to decode words that are exactly what phonics skill we are working on!

Our other supplies are used in fun, hands on activities that help make learning an adventure!

Thank you for your donation. We are blessed to have your support!”

  • Decodable Readers For First Grade

    Funded Oct 21, 2021

My students love when it's their turn to read with me in small groups. They have already learned how to read cvc words. Some of my groups are working on diagraphs like sh, th, ch and wh while other groups are working on vowel combinations.

Whatever skill we are working to master, these decodable books are perfect! We have been using the books during our small group reading time. I introduce a sight word that will be in the book, and we do word practice with the sight word before reading the book. Sometimes that looks like writing the word, or playing a game with words that have similar features. Then we read the book together. Afterwards we read the book independently. It's been wonderful seeing my students grow and learn using these decodable books.

Thank you again for your support and donation!”

  • Hatching Eggs and Ideas

    Funded Mar 10, 2020

A year later we were finally able to use our incubator! Due to Covid-19, last year's students missed out on the opportunity to watch baby chickens hatch from eggs.

I am happy to say that this spring, we got three fertile eggs. The baby chicks all hatched and my students were able to experience part of the life cycle of the chicken.

I am so grateful to the donors that supported my class. It is thanks to donors like you that students are able to have hands on opportunities that they normally would not get to experience! Thank you!”

  • Keep Your Hands (And Everything Else) To Yourself!

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

I am so grateful for the new headphones we received after this project funded. In fact, The impact of this project was doubled because the school had given us headphones to use until ours arrived and so we were able to give those headphones back to the school for another class to use.

So far the headphones have been awesome! They are all the same color which helps with no fighting. They fold up for easy storage. The headphone jacks have a little spring and a nice, sturdy metal finger hold so when the students pull the jacks out of the iPads, they aren't pulling on the wire. I think this is going to help them last quite a bit longer.

The ink is great and works perfectly for printing labels and other classroom papers.

Again, I am so grateful for your support of my students and making sure I have the supplies we need to make school better for everyone!”

  • Hurrah for Heroes Helping Our Handwriting

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Thank your for supporting my students' need to improve their handwriting. We were so excited to receive our handwriting tools. The students cheered when I opened the boxes and they saw all the colorful materials!

We have practiced strengthening our fingers by using the tweezers. We have practiced correct finger placement and gripping by using the pencil grips. There are times they just think they are playing, but they are actually increasing finger strength by using the handwriting tools! We used the tweezers to sort mini groundhogs and penguins. They thought that was so fun!

I am so grateful for the donations. Looking forward, we are going to hatch chicken eggs in the spring. I currently have a project that includes an incubator and materials to help us learn about the life cycle of living creatures.

Thank you again for your support!”

  • A Place For Everything and Everything In Its Place!

    Funded Oct 21, 2019

I am so thankful for the generous donations towards my "A Place For Everything and Everything In It's Place" project! It was such a relief to be able to organize toys and games into the tubs.

I had Mr. Potato Head toys in two open bins and now they are all together in a nice tub with a lid. I was able to organize some other blocks that were also in two separate containers, but now they are all together for easy access to play with.

I was able to throw away some broken tubs. I was worried to let the students play with the toys in those broken tubs. I was afraid someone would get scratched or hurt on the sharp, broken edges.

It has been so nice to have the materials I needed to organize and put things away. Thank you again for your donation. My students and I are happy with how things are organized now.”

I have two classes of kindergarten. The morning class has 22 lively and energetic children that love nonfiction books about insects, animals, and how things work. The afternoon class has 24 bouncy and enthusiastic children that love stories about fairy tales, families and talking animals. I love using their interests to make my lessons more interesting to them. I also try to teach all the students at the level they need to learn on. My goal is for each child to make a complete year's growth, regardless of where they started at. Thank you for supporting my marvelous kindergarten students!
