The Hip Bone's Connected To The... Trombone
Funded Oct 16, 2010Of all the projects I have put out on the DonorsChoose website, this is my all-time favorite. Thank you so much for funding this fantastic resource. Our new skeleton is the star of the school, spending time in both our music and science classrooms. Whenever he is in the room, the students flock to him.
Today I was using him in one of my band classes to teach the students about posture and a group of students began discussing the parts, asking questions and were so engaged in learning that the class period seemed to fly by... all without any prompting from me. What a wonderful dynamic classroom our new friend helps to create!
So please accept my heartfelt thanks for your generosity. This resource will be a permanent fixture in our school and enthrall thousands of students for many years to come!

Fun and Games in Music Class
Funded Oct 10, 2010I can't thank you enough for your contribution to my music classroom. The games and posters that were purchased with your donation have my students very eager to play and that translates to being eager to learn.
Just this afternoon, the Senior Band was begging to play the Music Symbols game, where they throw a ball at what resembles a dart board and then have to identify the music symbol their ball lands on. When we play these games they are engaged and happy, but the best part is when we get down to business and start working on music, they are far more confident about reading the symbols they see on the page. It's truly magical.
The posters of instruments have also been valuable, particularly with my younger students. We usually start each class by listening to a different piece of music and they try to identify characteristics of what they hear. Having these lovely color posters allows the students to picture the instruments as they hear them. It's not every 6 year old that can identify a bassoon!
Thank you so much for enriching the lives of these students and bringing our classroom to life with the joy of learning. Your gift will continue to brighten the lives of hundreds of students for many years to come.”

Help Secure the Creativity of our Budding Composers!
Funded Jan 12, 2010I can't thank you enough for your generous donation of a locking cabinet on wheels for our auditorium. The cabinet sits on the stage, which is used as a music classroom, and is filled with small instruments that are instantly available, yet always secure. The added bonus is being able to wheel the cabinet off stage for performances. It is also a fabulous blue color, which the students love!
This has truly changed the dynamic in my music classes as we use the cabinet on a daily basis to access instruments, games and other items that would otherwise be stored in a closet on the other side of the building. It is so wonderful to be able to utilize these items at a moment's notice, often when an idea presents itself during a lesson. Because these resources are close at hand, we are able to capitalize on such teachable moments.
Having an opportunity to learn an instrument is a life-changing event for many of these children. Your gift has enriched their experience in untold ways and will continue to do so for the thousands of music students who will follow in the coming years. Thank you so very much.”

Keep Our Pocket Chart And Spirits From Falling Down!
Funded Dec 10, 2009I cannot thank you enough for your donation to Donors Choose. Having new games and a reliable chart stand makes life so much easier and fun. Several of my students have already commented on how great it is to have these tools and how much it has increased their ability to see the board during lessons. Students who are learning to play an instrument and read music are now able to really see what is being written on the chart tablet.
I've used the instrument bingo game in several classes, from 1st grade keyboards to 5th grade general music class and it is an instant hit! The Yosemite Sam game is also very popular with my students who are learning to read music. These games are a wonderful way to teach and reinforce concepts under the guise of entertainment.
There are many studies that show students who play an instrument and learn to read music have better standardized test scores and graduation rates than those who do not. Your generous gift has helped pave the way for these students to be on the upside of that statistic. While it may seem like a small thing now, the thousands of students who will utilize these tools in the coming years will have more than fond memories of music class, they will have the benefit of skills that last a lifetime.
Without your kindness, so many children would be without the classroom supplies that make learning (and teaching) a joy. Particularly in these challenging times, it is important to make wise financial decisions and there is truly no better investment than in the future that shines so bright in the faces of these young musicians. Thank you so very much! ”

Help That Student in the Back See the Board!
Funded Oct 3, 2009I cannot thank you enough for your donation to Donors Choose. Having dry erase boards with a music staff imprinted really makes life easier both in my classroom and when I travel to other rooms to teach music. Several of my students have already commented on how great it is to have these tools and how much it has increased their ability to see what is happening in a lesson. Students who are learning to play an instrument and read music are now able to really see what is being written on the board. Our previous methods of small boards or chalk boards were difficult to see and awkward to set up. These new boards are fabulous and truly facilitate students learning to read music.

Elementary School Band Needs Instruments!
Funded Dec 11, 2008This is outstanding news! I played French horn when I was in elementary school, so to have the ability to add that to our school's instrument collection is really meaningful for me on a personal level in addition to being a tremendous leap forward for our band program in general. Also, the addition of a saxophone is a dream I've had since the program started. Your generosity is SO appreciated. THANK YOU!!!
