  • Embracing the Cold: One Coat at a Time

    Funded Dec 13, 2024

Thank you! Thank you so much for providing my students with much needed coats, long sleeve shirts, and socks. Your coats came in just in time! The week after the students were given coats the windchill hit -2! Students that came to school with no socks or holes in their socks now have brand new socks. Students have long extra-long sleeve shirts to keep them warm and to embrace the cold weather. Thank you!

One student said, "I have never had a new coat with these kinds of tags... I love my new coat!" A parent told me that their child was asking for a new coat, and child was wearing siblings old coat until they had money for a coat. Thank you for giving coats to my students.

Students that came to school in same shirts now have a variety of long sleeve shirts to wear. Another student comes to school with holes all over the jeans. Now the student has brand new jeans. Thank you!

I could have never put smiles on the faces of all of these students. You made it possible! Thank you for giving students more than warmth, you gave them a self-esteem!”

Your generosity will connect learning objectives across the curriculum and enhance each child's ability. The weather puppets are perfect for nonverbal students to demonstrate how to dress for rain and my higher functioning students can tell the class activities the puppet can do on rainy days which brings the conversation to why does weather change? Pre-writing skills are perfect for students just learning to write to students learning cursive. Our vision impaired therapist recommends yellow sand in the sensory table to reinforce academic vocabulary in a social setting. Letter titles and letter manipulative reinforce common strokes in writing and allows nonverbal students to communicate phonics skills. Letter titles can be used to teach the spelling of 'wow' or allowing students to use tiles to spell 'thank you for your generosity.
