Let's Take a Load Off!
Funded Dec 11, 2019This wonderful donation came at a fantastic time, while we were taking into consideration our students living in shelters and homeless with an opportunity to wash their clothes at school. This has allowed for one less stress for our students to worry about in this troubling time of trying to juggle schoolwork an unstable home life. It also has allowed for less teasing and more focus on learning. We have allocated a new private area where a student can schedule a time before and after school to launder their clothes.
During the first week in January during a counseling visit with my student who in the past was struggling with wearing a uniform and washing her clothes, I walked her upstairs to the new laundry center. She asked, where are we going, I said it's a surprise. Once I opened the door, I did not have to say anything the look of relief on her face was priceless. She has since bi-weekly scheduled to wash her clothes and has not been absent since this service has been started at our school.
As we begin to expand our service we will now look to provide detergent and fabric softener for our students' use. The students utilizing this service is growing weekly.”

Taking Calculated Risks for Our Future II
Funded May 25, 2015I would like to thank you for your generosity in funding Taking Calculated Risks for Our Future II. It goes without saying that kindness goes a long way and I am grateful to programs and especially donors who take the time to donate. Most of my students do not realize they are working from a deficit perspective. It is not until they walk into their SAT/ACT rooms where everyone is prepared with TI-84's, #2 pencils and confident faces that they begin to realize where they stand. Leveling the playing field is what I try to establish for my students on a daily basis.
Until this week, I was not able to sign out a calculator for my students. However, this only began because during a summer break over 100 calculators were stolen from our school during construction. It really inhibited our ability to support our students in taking the SAT/ACT with a school calculator. It was difficult to lend out the calculators and that discouraged the students from asking.
The difference in scores will definitely be impacted by the use of the TI-84 calculator and I anticipate many years from the donation. I am truly appreciative of your support of my first-generation high school graduates.”

Art as Therapy
Funded Dec 22, 2007I greatly appreciate your generosity in funding this wonderful opportunity. Our goal with this grant to incorporate art with counseling as a form of teaching students to use their emotions and hands to create an art form rather than towards violence or someone else. As a counselor our office is often used for time out sessions and an escape from the demands of the classroom; now, we will be able to offer our students a creative way to utilize there time in our office.

Printer Perfect
Funded Nov 28, 2005I would thank you for allowing me to give my students access to the vital necessity of a printer. I can now print newspaper articles, college outlines, and print out their work when their projects/term paper and reports are due.
This printer will allow me to print out crucial resources that my students can attend instead of getting into trouble. Just today I had to console a student who dated the 17 year old man who was gunned down on Sunday morning and couldn't give her a copy of the newspaper article so that she could have in her possession. Those immeasurable incidents are why I need the printer.
I thank you for providing me with the opportunity to fully service my students and their needs.
Sincerely,
Marlene ”
