Next year I am making the shift from teaching history to high school students with emotional/behavioral disabilities to teaching special education high school math. I currently teach one section of math of 16 students. Their abilities range from pre-kindergarten to 6th grade, Their English language proficiency ranges from native speakers to students in the Beginning/Emerging ranges. My class is highly dependent on technology in order to effectively differentiate on an individual basis.
Over the course of an 80-minute block, I am able to coach some students working independently, provide intermittant 1:1 attention to those working on specific skills and introduce new concepts to small groups.
It's a real hive of activity.
