I am planning on providing alternative/flexible seating options in my classroom next year! I believe that students excel when they are not confined to a standard desk/chair. My goal is to develop life-long learners and this begins with the classroom environment! Next year I will be looping to third grade with my students where we will be learning math and science, while my partner teacher will be teaching reading and social studies. My partner teacher has implemented alternative/flexible seating in her classroom and I have seen the astounding benefits. Flexible seating would provide my students with choices and enable them to feel more responsible for their own learning. When students are able to have choice on how and where they learn best it ultimately increases their chances of success in the classroom. Also, I understand children thrive with consistency. Implementing alternative/flexible seating in my classroom is important and a must to keep the consistency between both my classroom and my partner teacher's classroom. We would love to have flexible seating options in our functional classroom! “Outside the windows of our classroom is a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing world full of choices. How can we expect our students to solve problems and make choices independently if we constantly solve their problems and make their choices for them?” Kayla Delzer
