  • Cooking Up Some Fun!

    Funded May 7, 2024

Thank you so much for your incredible impact on my students, our school community and our local community. This project has been so fulfilling and a great learning experience for all involved. It has always been a pleasure of mine to encourage my students to engage in authentic learning opportunities. In order to give back to our community, this project allows our students to increase their skills in prepping snacks and meals. This project impacts multiple classes within our apartment classroom. Thanks again!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marie

  • Kits for a Cause!

    Funded Mar 29, 2024

We were able to give back to our community and become more in-tune to our own school community by collaborating with fellow colleagues. My students enjoyed participating in such a wonderful project. We were able to bring this project to life by assembling care packages for patients in rehab/nursing home facilities in our local community. We were able to collaborate with fellow colleagues whose students participate in a work-study type program within these facilities. It was so heartwarming to see this project come alive thanks to your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marie

  • Let's Get Seated!

    Funded May 23, 2023

It has been a great accomplish to be able to provide flexible seating for my young adults on the spectrum. Flexible, comfortable seating is extremely important in allowing students to learn with ease. Students have a tendency to be able to sit for longer periods of time and attend to the task at hand due to their sensory needs being met, as well as being comfortable with the sizing of furniture. Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. We appreciate your support! It would not have been possible without you!”

  • Let's Get Reading!

    Funded Mar 31, 2023

This has been a wonderful opportunity for my students to engage in reading activities in a functional manner. My students enjoyed sensory books, as well as the intricate details of many of the picture books. My students were able to engage in letter/word identification, picture vocabulary identification, as well as reading aloud with fluency. Students were able to communicate with one another regarding the readings, as well as express their feelings in regards to how each book made them feel. Reading may look a bit different in a 6:1:1 Classroom, however, it is crucial that students are exposed to a variety of rich text.”

  • SEL in a 6:1:1 Classroom!

    Funded May 17, 2021

Thank you for this extremely generous donation! This project has gone to support the social emotional welfare of my students, who just returned to in-person learning for 5 days a week this September. My students absolutely love and enjoy these materials on a daily basis. We utilize these materials to allow students to feel safe, comfortable and calm throughout the day to engage in academic learning. I am extremely grateful to have this much support during a very challenging year. My classroom has become that much more inviting. Again, thank you all for your continued support.”

  • Supports for Blended Learning

    Funded Jan 28, 2021

This gift has allowed my students to be more comfortable learning in-person, especially with the inconsistencies presented with the COVID-19 pandemic. My students have been able to self-regulate, attend to tasks for a longer period of time and engage with learning tasks. My students come in and verbally request or use their AAC device to request items provided by all of you. I know how technology that students can utilize at their desks (iPad and Amazon Kindle), as well as sensory items to keep students calm and focused. My students are most excited about the physio-ball chair and the tablets! I am so appreciative of this as a Special Education teacher. My students are so much more engaged and happier to be in a more normalized environment, as they are used to from the years pre-pandemic. I am forever thankful.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Marie

Prior to Covid-19, I was able to provide amazing functional and vocational opportunities for them within our school, as well as within the community. My 5 students participate in a functional, vocational curriculum throughout the day. They are learning how to manage their behaviors, while increasing their independence in caring for themselves and their surroundings. Prior to Covid-19, I was able to provide amazing functional and vocational opportunities for them within our school, as well as within the community. Since Covid-19 hit NYC, my students have struggled the most with returning to in-person learning. The classroom environment is not the same loving, comforting environment it once was. My students desperately need these materials to calm their anxieties and cope with confusing changes that comes with the chaos of blended learning. These materials will provide students an outlet for their stress and anxiety, as well as provide motivating resources to learn new content and new skills. These materials will allow students to learn to self-regulate and self-soothe. Students enjoy lounging on a bean bag, cuddling up with a tactile pillow, or using the iPad after working hard to complete an academic task. Help me help my students!
