  • Art Beyond Crayons and Markers

    Funded Mar 31, 2021

Thank you so much for your generous funding of art supplies for my students, as they respond to abstract artwork, expressing and creating works of art inspired by Kandisnsky, and Frank Romero's bright, expressive artwork of Los Angeles and their culture in familiar settings. You open so many doors for them through your donation.”

    Ms. Hillary

  • Getting a Big Reaction!

    Funded Sep 22, 2020

Thank you so much for your support of my students and giving them the opportunity to explore and learn chemistry science through hands -on activities. I was able to conduct science lessons online, and have my students conduct their experiments at home.

Some of the experiments we have conducted so far are, making glow sticks as they learn about and creates an exergonic reaction, and making polymer clay, which was a great example of science creating art, as they then created sculptures from the "clay" they created in their science experiment, Make a Squishy Polymer.

Again thank you so much for your generous donation. I had great fun driving to each student's home, and leaving the science kits along with other materials I had purchased, and getting to see them in person from a safe distance.”

  • Can You Hear Us? Speakers and Microphones for Musical Theater

    Funded Mar 9, 2020

Thank you so much! I don’t have the words to fully express how grateful I am. I honestly thought we wouldn’t be funded, but you made this a reality. This was such a surprise, and the best news for our musical program! We have struggled during our rehearsals having our children share the two hand held microphones we own. Thank you so much for providing our musical school program with these badly needed microphones, and speakers. Our students work so very hard, and put their hearts into their performances.”

  • We Can’t Hear You!! Bluetooth Soundbar for Multimedia Projects Presentations

    Funded Nov 22, 2019

Thank you so much for funding our Soundbar project. The quality of sound in our presentations, while we watch instructional videos, and when we perform has greatly improved. The soundbar helped to compensate for the poor quality of speakers that we had, and has help to boost sound to the entire classroom, and on occasion in the auditorium as we practice for our musical presentations. The student are encouraged to present their learning to others so that they can develop and extend their English language learning, communicating with others in audiences, and working cooperatively.

I found it to be amazing at how much my students would miss during instructional time because they could not hear instruction clearly. The bluetooth component of the sound bar has greatly improve the ability of my students to hear better no matter where they sit.

I have a couple of students with hearing issues, and the sound bar is of great delight to them. Again thank you so much for funding our project.”

  • The Domino Effect: Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, & Dividing Fractions

    Funded Oct 23, 2019

Thank you so much for the donation. My students were so excited to see all of the domino containers as I opened the box from Donors Choose/Amazon. They immediately asked how we were going to use the dominos. I explained that they were going to be used to learn to add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals, and fractions. I also explained that I would be allowing them to come in and play Dominos as a way to learn critical thinking skills, strategy, and logic.

The dominos proved to be very useful in learning about decimals and are proving invaluable to as we begin the exploration of fractions and mastering the addition and subtraction of equivalent fractions.

It has been such a joy to see my students acquire foundational math skills that support them as they continue on their educational journey.

A very sincere thanks to you from all my students.”

  • Lighting Up Our Performances!

    Funded Mar 18, 2019

Thank you for funding our project, and providing the students with new, portable, stage lights. Visibility is an important aspect of theater, and in last year's performance unfortunately, some children were in unlit, dark areas. The new lighting made quite a difference in allowing our audience to see the cast members who were in all parts of the stage. Family members could see their children throughout the entire performance.

An unexpected outcome of the stage lighting was teaching ourselves (us teachers), and our stage crew the craft of stage lighting. Our stage crew learned the vocabulary of stage lighting, such as a "wash" and "fill", and they learned to manipulate the flow of color, and light across the stage. They learned how use a borrowed lighting controller, and a spot light. This was such a popular part of our production that we plan to teach stage lighting as a separate part of our musical theater program.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hillary

This classroom project was brought to life by Disney Musicals in Schools and one other donor.
Musical theater has a strong impact on our elementary students who have little exposure to the world of musicals, and theater production outside of school. This past year they have learned to develop communication skills, and to work in teams toward a common goal. Their language skills, self esteem, and self confidence grew noticeably. We found that our students who had participated in our theater program experienced improved reading comprehension, and were more engaged in their learning. These students gained confidence in expressing themselves effectively, while improving their English language skills. Students who participated in the musical discovered their hidden talents as they became more involved. The equipment we are requesting, portable stage lights, will greatly improve the lighting for our dark stage. Proper stage lighting is important for creating a mood and cohesiveness for the setting and scenery. It would greatly improve the visibility of the students, and enhance the stage environment. The students are eager for the our next production, The Lion King Kids.
