I am so grateful to all of you. I appreciate all of your donations. I cannot wait for my students to have their classroom supplies. Once again thank you for all of your help and support for our classroom”

  • Guiding Students Into Reading!

    Funded Aug 22, 2018

I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your generous donations. My class and I have been enjoying our new books the past couple of weeks. It was such a great feeling to start the school year with a lot of different books, that are at the reading levels of my students.

In my class we have many students reading at different reading levels. During our reading time students learn different reading skills such as identifying story structure, characters point of view, identifying text features and many other skills. Learning these skills whole group and then being able to go and practice these skills with books at the students levels helps all my students feel successful.

My class is currently loving all of the non-fictions books and are soaking up information from birds to whales. They love speaking about and then writing about all the new information they are learning. My students now have a variety of books that they can turn to to become great readers. I appreciate all of you for that opportunity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mediavilla

It is so important for students to look at reading as a fun and exciting hobby. Especially if English is not a students first language which is the case in my classroom. Students should engage in a variety of books which hold their interest, which can be either fiction or non-fiction books. A variety of books that students can read will open up doors in their education and the world around them. Guided reading is a way to teach students how to read by meeting them at their entry level. It can be tedious if you are using the same books over and over to teach students the different strategies they need in order to read. My students will find it exciting and enjoy reading new books at their different levels while engaging in their guided reading lessons.
