Breaking Educational Chains Through Access to Technology!
Funded Dec 18, 2018Words can barely explain my gratitude. Thank you so very much for giving each of my students the gift of technology! I teach in a self-contained setting where many of my students grapple with various disabilities. Each laptop allows me the opportunity to differentiate my lesson plans and provide students with reading passages that are leveled and accessible to them. Each student not only has a leveled text for them to read, if necessary with the use of headphones texts can also be read to further support their learning. Additionally, students can sign into their own read-works or flo-cabulary accounts to electronically complete assignments. What is most exciting to my students is their sense of ownership because each computer is numbered and a number was assigned to each student. Students enjoy typing up assignments and conducting research on their individual computers. I have two autistic students who struggle with communicating. They love the new technology because it allows them to communicate electronically with myself and peers. They also appreciate the privacy the computer offers them in accessing texts on their reading levels without the entire class knowing they are reading and completing different assignments. We recently completed a woman's history month project that was inspired by Michelle Obama's Memoir, "Becoming". Each student was excited to conduct research on their laptops with ease and type up their finished products in class. Overall, these laptops have made a tremendous difference in the lives of my students. They have made major academic gains and we and we thank you deeply for believing and investing in us!”
With gratitude,
