Sensory Learning is Key for Dyslexia!
Funded Sep 23, 2021Oh my goodness! I wish you could have been there when my firsties saw their new alphabet arcs! They were over the moon! So was I. I am absolutely thrilled to have these new learning tools. As soon as the UPS man brought them, we tore open the boxes and starting playing with them right away. My kiddos had so much fun this morning building their short u spelling words. The hands-on experience was exactly what my struggling readers needed to help them understand segmenting and blending sounds to spell a word.
We also got new sand trays for our kiddos who need that tactile touch for learning. Research has proven that using sand trays and sandpaper letters really helps to build those foundational skills for our babies who struggle with dyslexia. I have just over a handful of students in my class who are dyslexic, so having these materials means the world to me.
I do not know what I would do without donors like you to help support my classroom. We would miss out on so many learning opportunities. So I thank you again from the bottom of my heart.”

Funded Sep 7, 2021Thank you again for funding our diversity book project! So far we have completed two book studies on our new texts. My kiddos really enjoyed reading the story, What Happened to You? They were very curious about what happened to the little boy's leg and I loved seeing how sensitive and compassionate they were when they learned about his differences.
It warms my heart to see my babies embrace other children with special needs and disabilities and to really understand what it might feel like to be seen as different. Part of our book study including writing about how we can be more inclusive to individuals, especially children, with disabilities. I truly believe they gained so much from this activity!
As a teacher, I love incorporating literature into our lessons that help my students to remember to have kind hearts and open minds. Thank you so very much for helping to bring learning opportunities like these to life!”

Funded May 3, 2021Thank you again for funding our Scholastic News project! I just adore Scholastic News Magazine and so do my firsties year after year. So far we have gotten to learn and explore topics that include: You Belong, Squirrels, Friends Have Fun, and Keep Trying.
My kiddos love the interactive digital component that comes with our Scholastic subscription as well as their physical magazine. I love that they get to learn and explore science and social studies content that goes beyond the required district curriculum. I am especially excited to see all of the diversity themed content that Scholastic is exploring.
Thank you again for your kindness and generosity. I truly do not know what Room 14 would do without your help. xoxo”

Funded Aug 8, 2021Thank again for funding our New Year, New Books project! My kiddos and I were both tickled pink to get these new books for our classroom library! They loved Vampenguin, a story about a baby penguin that accidentally gets mixed up with a baby vampire. They also loved Our Class is a Family! That book was so special to read on the first day of school. I truly want my kiddos to feel that Room 14 is their home away from home, and books like that one and A Letter From Your Teacher really drive that point home.
Thank you again for supporting my little first grade classroom. We appreciate you tremendously!”

Basic School Supplies? Check!
Funded Jul 12, 2021Thank you again for funding our school supplies project! It could not have come at a better time with the upcoming school year just around the corner. Since our project materials arrived, I have been steadily putting together little packages of supplies for each of my kiddos. When they come back to school, each child will have their own supply bag filled with pencils, crayons, glue sticks, and scissors! I am also super excited about adding some other basic items such as sentence strips, chart paper for whole group lessons, and play dough to our classroom. These items will be so handy all throughout the year!
Again, thank you for supporting my little first grade classroom. Donors like you make all the difference!”

Funded May 1, 2021Thank you again for funding this project for our first grade classroom! I cannot begin to articulate how grateful I am for this platform and for donors like you. I truly would have nothing in my classroom if it weren't for your generosity.
This was such a fun project and so very necessary. Having to transition back and forth between in-person learning to at-home learning over and over, the kiddos really put the hurt on headphones. We went through so many pairs! Thankfully this project was funded at the perfect time, because we desperately needed more headphones. With the upcoming school year quickly approaching, I am happy to share that we will still have enough headphones to share with the entire incoming group of firsties.
Being able to provide my kiddos with basic learning necessities, means the world to me. Thank you again for helping us out. XOXO.”

Reduce, Reuse, & Recycle!
Funded Apr 22, 2021Thank you again for fully funding our Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle project! We have been having THE best time exploring the process of recycling and seeing just what all it can do for our Earth.
I wish you could have seen my little firsties faces when the giant box from Amazon arrived. With each item we pulled out, they were more and more excited.
So far we have done a book study on The Adventures of a Plastic Bottle and we also used our digital TPT funds to go on a virtual field trip to a recycling center.
My kiddos are also super delighted with the toys too. The wonder on their faces was absolutely precious when they finally understood how a plastic bottle can become a classroom toy.
Again, I thank you for your kindness and generosity and most importantly, for helping to bring learning experiences like this one to my children.”

Funded Apr 23, 2021Thank you again for funding our nurturing and play project! My kiddos are just loving these new baby dolls and baby care items!
I wish you could have seen their faces as we opened each box and pulled out these fun new toys.
I get so much delight watching my firsties play. It truly makes my heart so heavy with happiness when I see how much they are enjoying themselves and how much they are learning. I know that most of my babies are not role playing at home, but rather spending quite a bit of time in front of electronics. Technology is a wonderful tool, but I want my kiddos to remember and know what real, in-person interaction and play feels like. So thank you for helping to make this a everyday reality for us.
Please be on the lookout for pictures! I will be uploading them to Donors Choose very soon. And thank you again for supporting my classroom. There is not a single day that goes by that I don't think of you and all that you have done for me and the kids of Room 14. XOXO”

We Want To Be Doctors!
Funded Apr 14, 2021Thank you again for funding our Doctor project! We are just getting started with it, but I could not wait to share just how much fun my babies are having with these new learning materials. Yesterday I took them on a virtual field trip to an Animal Hospital and to a Pediatric Doctor's office. After went finished our trips and exploring, we sat down in small group to read I Want to Be a Doctor and I Want to Be a Veterinarian. My kiddos really loved the colorful pictures in the stories and I love that the texts feature people of color. Getting to share books that represent my students is fundamental for instilling in them that they can be and do whatever they want and the color of their skin is something to be proud of.
I wish you could have been there to see them playing with the new medical costumes and toys. They were so adorable role playing all that they had learned on our field trip.
Thank you again for helping me bring such fun learning experiences to my firsties.”

Funded Apr 5, 2021This project was just so much fun! The play table is the new favorite toy in our classroom. I love how versatile it is and the kiddos love all the different activities that came with it. The table itself arrived with bins that were filled with cars and trucks, connect and play builders, dinos, and Lego bricks. I love watching them play and use their imaginations.
With all the state-mandated testing and pressures of a rigorous curriculum, we can often forget how important play is for the emotional and physical development of the child. This is why I make sure to include play time in our schedule every single day!
Thank you again for supporting my classroom. I don't know what I would do without you. :)”
