I work in a Title-1 school teaching students with special needs in grades 4 and 5. My students come from many different backgrounds. Some student are come from low socio-economic backgrounds. Some students come from families who learned English as a Second Language. My caseload ranges from year to year in both number and ability range. My school has resources that we all must share, but it becomes a challenge when there are so many teachers and students trying to share a limited number of materials. I want my students to have the chance to be successful in school. I try to set high, yet attainable goals for them, but need help in order to support them in their abilities to succeed. My students are already at an academic disadvantage due to their learning differences. It is my goal every day and every school year to help level the playing field for them so that they can rise up to any challenges that they face.
