  • Beautifying the Classroom

    Funded Dec 16, 2022

It's unbelievable the difference a set of headphones makes to a student. Each one was able to listen to their own audio book without the distraction of other audiobooks around.

The pencils were also well received because many of our students come to school "unprepared" everyday.

The small sized notebooks made great journals and the students were so enthused by the size of the books it encouraged them to write more often.

Here, in this neighborhood, you may think that education is not a primary concern for parents; but it is quite the opposite. The biggest challenge here, is not having adequate resources in the classroom. Again we thank you and appreciate you kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sealy

  • 4th Grade Journalist and Photographers

    Funded Aug 16, 2018

It has been a wonderful venture through the streets of Brooklyn looking for images to photograph. We appreciate that we could not have done this without you. Our group is small (6 students) but we have been able to photograph areas and events inside the school to show our school spirit through and our love for our building and its occupants.

The cameras are helping us better keep hold of a piece of the school's and neighborhood's history. We have taken pictures at many events and are currently working on editing our writing to go along with our photos.

The students are excited about being able to share their photos with classmates, teachers and family.

All of the students are especially happy with the cameras because for of their ages they have been primarily exposed to cameras within a phone so a stand along camera with all its buttons and abilities is intriguing. They are also able to work independently to choose what they would like to photograph and write about.

    Again we appreciate your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Sealy

Our students need as much academic assistance as possible. The cameras are a window into a new world that they could possibly turn into a career as a photo journalist or photographer. Above all, students need to have exciting access to writing because it is a foundational skill that is used in most careers regardless of title. Writing about a photo that you took is an excellent strategy for reluctant writers. It is important for students to be exposed to unfamiliar careers-In this case journalism, photo journalism, and photography. This addition to the classroom will make writing more enjoyable and fun.
