One challenge in our class is to inspire students to design models and study engineering when they have never actually seen, held, touched or felt their designs as a final product. A 3D printer will make a tangible plastic model of a design students create using technology. It is remarkable how empowered students become when they have ownership of their education! Science materials are always lacking due to funding! If we have a 3D printer we will be able to design our own materials and then create our own manipulatives to use with science experiments and STEM projects. This is an affordable way to have the materials needed to complete hands-on assignments. Not only do students learn how to create their items they will use in their experiments, but they will also learn how to work with current technology. Keeping up with the latest innovations will help these students gain more knowledge about future technology which is vital for them in the future.
