Every year I encourage my students to choose their own reading material for small group discussion and book clubs. On Fridays, I read one chapter aloud from a newer YA novel to expose them to diverse stories and voices. I would like to continue this during this time of distance learning. Right now, the majority of my students do not have their own books, and rely on online books for their reading materials. I would LOVE to supply each of my students a copy of one of our book club selections for the year that they can read at home, and then have discussions in online "book clubs". I know my students will love this new addition to our distance learning meetings, and they will then have a book of their own to read about the important issues in our society happening right now. I also hope this will entice them to want to read more!
