  • Old-School Teacher Needs New Classroom Laptop

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

In the words of Willy Wonka, "So shines a good deed in a weary world." Please know good people, that I am moved by your kindness more than you'll ever know.

Your donation of the new classroom laptop is a blessing to everyone in our class, but most especially me! It's finally possible to use a computer throughout the day to teach lessons I project on the board. At last, I can count on a reliable piece of equipment not to zonk out in the middle of something important. Students are able to display their slideshows with ease from the big kahuna computer and we don't have to rework all the connection wires to do it.

The built in speakers are so loud that I don't need an external speaker for videos. The touchscreen is so easy to quickly zoom a display in and out. Nice!

Big thanks to the good folks who helped me to fund this project.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Moss

  • Former Zoombies Need a Touch of Class!

    Funded Aug 13, 2021

Thanks so much for supporting social and emotional learning in the classroom through your generous donation of awesome classroom games. We have used them twice so far and the kids are over the moon to be playing and interacting with other children again after such a long lockdown at home. Being home was hard for kids, but now that they're back it's almost like they were never gone. They are adjusting very well to school routines.

The soap dispenser and disinfectant wipes are keeping desks and hands fresh and clean. The label maker and sharpies are simply fantastic for keeping everything neatly labeled and organized.

Not a day goes by that we aren't using one supply or another from your generous donations to our class! So big thanks to you! We appreciate your support of our little classroom in the big city so very much.”

  • Basic Supplies for Creative Minds!

    Funded Aug 7, 2021

I wish you could see the faces of my students when we get a call from the office that a Donor's Choose package has arrived. As soon as the phone rings in the class, everyone holds their breath. The news of a package's arrival is thrilling.

These latest packages were so welcome! New sketchbooks for every budding artist, gorgeous markers, drawing pens, and more. The students are delighted to imagine all the interesting things they'll draw and paint inside their sketchbooks this year.

It's only the 2nd week of school, but not a day goes by that we aren't using one supply or another from your generous contribution to our class! Everything you helped to provide is so appreciated by myself and children I teach daily.”

    With gratitude,

  • The Wonder of New Supplies!

    Funded Aug 6, 2021

Your kind donations are already making a difference in our classroom. When the students arrived to school on the first day, most of the supplies were here already and neatly placed atop each student's desk. You should have seen their faces!

We set about adding stickers and names to the folders and notebooks. Next we decorated our journals and prepared the pages for our big ideas to take root. I presented a slideshow on the power and wonder of journaling to get everyone excited about the journey on which they are about to embark.

The pencils are super handy because if you've ever been in a classroom, you know how often kids lose their pencils! They're already having fun using the board markers to solve problems on the white board. It's only the second week of school so far, but bright days are ahead thanks to your donation of so many new supplies.”

  • The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins With New Supplies!

    Funded Jul 23, 2019

Believe me when I say you've made my students' first few weeks of school such a joy. From the notebooks to the folders and everything in between, my new batch of 5th graders are really enjoying their new supplies so much. It really means a lot to them to know that there are good people in the world who care about them enough to donate such nice things for them to use throughout the year.

I wish you could have seen the pride with which they decorated their sketchbook covers and showed them off to their parents at Back to School Night. For most of my students these are the first sketchbooks they've ever owned. How they loved opening their paint boxes for the first time and painting bright swatches of color across the new white pages. Just this week they began to use the bullet journal stencils to jazz up their classroom diaries. The interactive notebooks and Writing Process folders are a big hit as well. Let's face it, everything is more fun when you have brand new supplies!

This year is going to be filled with all sorts of creative discovery. And to think it all started with YOU and your heartfelt donations.”

  • Creative Supplies for a Brand New Year!

    Funded Aug 3, 2018

I really can't thank you enough for making our first month of school so awesome! My students came to school the first day with new notebooks, sketchbooks, pencils, and markers waiting for them on their assigned desks.

Spirits were running high as they opened their brand new sketchbooks and began turning the thick, white pages. Of all the supplies you donated surely this one brought the most excitement.

Since school began, a day hasn't gone by that I haven't been asked, "Ms. Moss is today the day we get to paint in our sketchbooks?" We started by decorating the covers last week. That simple activity was such a thrill! This week the students will receive their watercolor paints and they will begin to make fledgling marks onto the pages of their sketchbooks. I anticipate many squeals of delight. Thank you for making this possible!”

  • Financial Literacy Through Road Trip Planning!

    Funded Jan 25, 2018

The 5 new Chromebooks and sets of headphones you provided are making a world of difference in our classroom. Now that we've returned from Spring Break our virtual roadtrip to the national parks is becoming a reality. Their excitement is palpable.

With all of the testing we all have to endure at the end of the year, our virtual roadtrip project is such a welcome respite from regular classwork and test preparation. Everyone is meeting in groups to make their final choices on the national parks they will visit and soon they'll be ready to "hit the road!"

Not only has your generosity generated a sense of goodwill in our class, but your donations have made it possible to have 12 computers (total) in the class that I will be able to use, not just on this project, but for years to come! I can't express how nice it is to have the technology I need on a daily basis at the students' fingertips. But more importantly, my 31 students know that there are good people in the world who care about them.”

  • Super Supplies for Creative 5th Graders!

    Funded Sep 23, 2017

I wish you could see the faces of my students when we get a call from the office that a Donor's Choose package has arrived. As soon as the phone rings in the class, everyone holds their breath. The news of a package's arrival is thrilling.

This latest package was a godsend! We were completely out of colored, lined, paper for Writer's Workshop stories. Mechanical pencils, and lead were nearly out as well. The velvety black card stock arrived just in time for a culminating Science unit that had us painting and labeling constellations visible in the different seasons.

On Friday, everyone received their very own paint palette and I taught the kids how to create watercolor tints and shades by mixing black and white paint with all of the other colors in their paint boxes (from a previous Donor's Choose projects). Each child had their own water jar and didn't have to share, so that meant many fewer trips to the sink.

Not a day goes by that we aren't using one supply or another from your generous donations to our class! So big thanks Judy, Matt, Michele, Kathy, Lane, and Janice! The supplies you helped to provide are so appreciated by myself and the 30 children I teach daily.”

  • Harnessing the Power of Technology to Teach Tolerance!

    Funded Sep 17, 2017

The 3 HP Stream laptops are making life much more interesting in our classroom. Not only are the children using them to explore and expand their concepts about cultural diversity in our modern world, they are also working in small groups on a Native American project where they research cultures and traditions of long ago.

Students are coming to the classroom before the first bell rings so they can check NASA's astronomy photo of the day (APOD) website, as well as play Math, Spelling, and Vocabulary games on the computers. One of my Russian-speaking students is in charge of taking out the computers daily and charging them. He loves his new classroom job and is very patient and methodical with setting everything up just right.

Everyone is so excited when they get the chance to use one of our coveted classroom computers. Thank you very much for moving us further along the digital path of learning. Your generosity is appreciated by myself and the 30 boys and girls I teach daily.”

  • Budding Environmentalists Researching Their Way to a Greener Future!

    Funded Jun 5, 2017

Please know that the budding environmentalists in our classroom are super excited to have 4 new Chromebooks, a big shiny color printer, sketchbooks, notebooks, and everything else your donations so generously provided! My students are well-prepared to embark on a voyage of scientific discovery with all these critical tools on hand.

Not only is it a luxury to have a real research station in the classroom, but it is also so cool for the boys and girls to be able to find information on the internet whenever they need it in all the subject areas. Chromebooks make it super simple for me to bookmark important information for my students. I add the bookmark to one computer and it instantly updates all of them! Having Google Docs, Google Maps, Google Earth, and dozens of other useful apps is simply fantastic! Not only are my students able to use the computers and printer for Science projects, but I've also been able to have them sharpen their Math skills, brush up on their typing techniques, and watch pre-selected videos that enhance what we're learning in all subject areas.

For the first time in many of my students lives, they have their very own sketchbooks and a real drawing pen for illustrating things in all the subject areas. Having that color printer at our disposal is pretty special too. Our year has just begun and thanks to you it's going to be a really good one. I can't thank you enough for making all of this possible.”

The students I teach are enthusiastic, curious, and passionate about learning. They crave interesting projects, field trips, good books, atlases, access to technology, and real art supplies. Many of the children I teach here at our Title I school in the center of Chinatown come from hard-working immigrant parents that strongly value education. Although many of my students come from backgrounds of substantial economic hardship, you wouldn't know it by chatting with them. They are full of hope and possibility. I am honored to teach them!
