My students bring a lot of stress and trauma with them each day they step foot through the school door. My job as their teacher is to help them feel calm, in control, and handle their emotions, while helping them pass the Iowa third grade no child left behind. Some of my students never feel true calmness or relaxation because of how they started their development into this world, or with the uncertainty of their everyday lives. Each day, I aim to make the classroom environment inviting, predictable, loving, and structured, while adapting to each one of my students.
I think about how I work best myself as an adult, usually in a comfortable seat.
It would be hard for me to focus sitting in a desk all day I could not imagine my students doing the same, not to mention my students with ADHD. I am over trying to make them be desk and chair workers. They need to move as their brains are processing (yoga ball chairs and balance disks). The students need to be comfortable while they work together on third-grade tasks (lap desks and plastic stools), and they need to feel relaxed as they escape in a great book (inflatable chairs, bean bags, foam knee pads, and butterfly stools). I am looking to give my students opportunities to keep their bodies relaxed, focused and comfortable. These items will certainly help them get there.
The classroom supplies which includes scissors, glue sticks, and erasers are supplies for students who run out or do not have any. Along with a 10 drawer storage cart to store the supplies in. I plan to use the echo dot in the classroom and integrate it into the curriculum.
