  • Social-Emotional Lessons for All!

    Funded Nov 1, 2022

I cannot express how grateful I am for your help in funding this project for our many students (will actually reach 850 students). This Donors choose project will help create many updated, eye-catching displays and signage that will reflect the Social Emotional Lessons they are learning in each season.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schodowski

This classroom project was brought to life by Rainwater Charitable Foundation and 5 other donors.
  • Mask-Making Art Project

    Funded Jan 26, 2022

As expected, the mask-making project was a huge hit. Many of the students were relieved to talk about masks that were NOT designed for a pandemic and instead, were able to research historical and cultural significance of masks and many chose to use this research to inspire their mask-making. We had African, Egyptian, Japanese, Venetian, Native American masks and more. It was a wonderful mixed-media experience for all and I even saw students wearing their masks at the Masquerade prom. I really appreciate your help in funding this memorable experience for my deserving students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schodowski

This classroom project was brought to life by Emerson Collective and 8 other donors.
  • Neon BlackLight Projects to Light up a Challenging Year!

    Funded Jan 29, 2021

The black lights and special paint project created a lot of buzz around the school and community. The students created so many amazing and unique works that they just HAD to put on an art show. They helped me come up with a name and advertisement and we called it The Glow Show. We invited teachers, staff and families and they photographed very well. This was such an inspiring project that it has continued to be done and the lights have been used by theatre as well during spooky season.

Thank you so much for donating to this project, you really helped art be the coolest place to be!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schodowski

  • Painting Portraits for the Memory Project

    Funded Sep 20, 2019

This project has touched over 100 lives and countless others who witnessed the amazing work that my students created for 45 Nigerian children.

My students chose the child they would draw or paint and they got to know Nigerian culture and design as they created personalized work for each child. After two months of sending them back to Nigeria, we received a video from The Memory Project of the children receiving their portraits.

There wasn't a dry eye in the room. I was particularly touched when one of my tough students turned in his portrait to me and when I praised him he said "I did it for her, not for me". To see students who often feel apathy towards projects rise to the occasion to create something special was especially inspiring for me and other educators.

Thank you so much for this opportunity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Schodowski

Young people and old people alike are more likely to be motivated when they are serving others. Finding the determination to learn a difficult skill like throwing on the wheel is not as daunting when your goal is to give back and help those in need. Students learn so much through pottery and making unique bowls. They gain even more by being empowered and recognizing that they can make a difference in the world. We plan to make a large quantity of bowls for an Empty Bowls Project we would host in our city for it’s growing homeless population. We need a potter’s wheel and slump molds so that we can make many bowls to sell (& fill) at the fundraiser. Other items will assist in streamlining productivity while allowing students to experiment with technique and creativity.
