These books will be used across curriculums. Round is a Tortilla will be a great addition to our math library. This book will be used during our study of geometry, inspiring important discussion before we complete a shape scavenger hunt around our room and the school. Bravo!: Poems About Amazing Hispanics will be used during our poetry unit as we learn about important members of the Hispanic community, inspiring students to write poems about their own amazing achievements. We will also connect this lesson to our knowledge of rhyming words.
Representation Matters: It is essential that students see themselves in their classroom. One of the most important types of representation comes in the form of literature. It is important that all voices are amplified in order for students to feel that their voice matters. When students see characters that look like them, come from similar backgrounds it inspires them. Representation is an essential element in building community as well as self-esteem. Our library will serve as a mirror, reflecting back all the wonderful things my students are capable of!
