  • Pop with BrainPOP!

    Funded Mar 16, 2021

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. My students love BrainPop! Having this additional resource in the classroom has been so beneficial to my students. What BrainPop does through these videos (create a shared foundation and strengthen vocabulary with animated movies featuring relatable characters that connect to students through humor and empathy) only helps to reinforce the instruction I am delivering. In the classroom, content is usually taught through reading and writing. The videos are a powerful tool that serves to provide scaffolded learning experiences designed for younger learners with accessibility features like text-to-speech, as well as support for visual learners. This maximizes learning for all learners in my classroom. SO again, thank you so much for helping me meet my learners needs! Please know that you are making a difference in my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soriano

  • Tech for the Teach!

    Funded Dec 17, 2020

Once again, thank you for donating to my classroom. By having this iPad in my classroom, it has helped me tremendously save on paper, printer ink, and has supported my instruction when I meet individually with my students.

The iPad has been primarily used to hep support instruction when I meet with individual students. After I finish a lesson (whether reading, writing, or math), I always pre-select students to met with based o the understanding of the skill being worked on. I check for understanding during the lesson and based o those responses, I can tell who is struggling with the skill and who can practice independently. For those who I can tell are struggling , I meet with them and practice with them on the iPad using fun interactive activities. I also use videos from BrainPOP (another donated project) to support the skill I am teaching in the classroom. Videos have proven to be an effective teaching tool that can help stimulate the cognitive processes of thinking, reasoning, problem-solving, decision-making, and creating. They also help by engaging students with more complex themes, and to facilitate further engagement with the skills they are learning in second grade!

I also use the iPad to scan and grade student work. I store them in a digital drive and pull up their work with feedback to support their progress in class.

Again, Thank you so much for donating. My class and I truly appreciate it!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soriano

  • EAS-ELL Learning

    Funded Sep 20, 2018

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. I can't tell you how efficient this easel has been for displaying anchor charts and providing explicit content material for my students. Having this portable tool in my classroom has been like having an extra set of hands in helping my students grasp content by displaying definitions, step by step visuals, and examples of how they can problem solve in all content areas. I use this mostly for math and literacy- where I hang up our daily learning targets, language objectives, examples or notes, and even hang up word walls for the day! This allows my students multiple opportunities to review and master conceptual understandings of the skills we are working on or have worked on in the past.

Again, it is with sincere gratitude that I thank you for donating to our classroom. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soriano

  • Conscious Decluttering

    Funded Nov 3, 2017

I am writing to express my sincerest gratitude for the donations you have made to my classroom. These tools have helped shape our classroom into a safe, fun, and organized space made for learning. The rainbow carts are being used for reading, writing, and math centers. Each cart is assigned a content, and it's drawers are assigned to a specific group of 5-6 students. I store folders in each drawer for each student in my class. The work in the folder ranges from engaging tasks to challenging activities. These folders also help me communicate with my students by providing effective feedback in the privacy of their folders. This serves as a communication tool between my students and I. These tools have not only strengthened my classroom environment by helping me get rid of storing everything in baskets, but its also reinforced my ability to differentiate the work my students do by helping me individualize their supplies. THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR HELPING ME DO THIS FOR MY STUDENTS. These tools are ones that I plan on using for years to come. Thank you for investing my classroom. My students and I truly appreciate it.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soriano

  • Classroom Reload!

    Funded Mar 29, 2017

Words cannot express how grateful my students and I are for your generous donations. With these new supplies, my students were able to do more expressive writing projects, use supplemental worksheets to complete activities that strengthen their literacy and math skills, and participate in cooperative and engaging discussions with their classmates. By refilling our pencil and crayon inventory, it took some of the burden off of my students so they never had to worry about coming to school without any supplies. You provided supplies for them! By having more paper in our classroom, I was able to provide more center activities for my students that helped strengthen critical foundational skills needed for the development of their learning. By using white boards and clipboards, my students were able to use these tools to jot notes, do a quick write, and even show their work while delivering instructional content. By writing it down on these tools, my students were able to discuss their work with their peers and demonstrate their logic or reasoning through the boards! I can't tell you how much I appreciate you all for donating. It warms my heart to know that there are people who believe in me and want my students to succeed. But to succeed, I need all the right tools... And that starts with supplies. If you haven't already done so, please read "If she only knew". This story is the reason I make it my daily goal to always provide for my students. Be it a pencil, crayons, a safe space, or even a snack. They're children and they are our future. So thank you for investing in our future. I only wish you would meet them so you all can see how truly wonderful they are and how blessed I am to be their teacher. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soriano

  • iLearn through iPad!

    Funded Nov 29, 2016

Words cannot being to express how thankful my students and I are for your generous donations. You're interest in and dedication to my classroom has leaped my kid into a brand new world. A world where learning doesn't just have to happen with a pencil and a paper, but with a device can make learning interactive and engaging.

The tablets have become such a valuable tool and resource in my classroom. I have taken the time to purchase and download apps that can engage and challenge my students in learning how to read, write, listen, and speak in Spanish. Since all of my students are on different levels and have different learning styles, the tablets have successfully been able to engage my students in learning critical literacy and math skills through the use of different apps.

The tablets you have donated will be used for many years to come, not just this year! You have provided us with a valuable and enriching tool that will boost my students' learning, and for that I will always be thankful.

From the bottom of my and my sweet students' hearts, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soriano

  • Magic Carpet for Bilingual Students!

    Funded Jan 20, 2016

    Dear Donors:

Words cannot begin to describe how grateful I am for the donations you've made to this project. Because of this rug I have been able to run an exciting and manageable classroom for the past 5 months. This past year, my classroom has been the second home to a big group of first graders. Not only has this rug provided a safe space for all my students but it has also provided my students an interesting and unique way of learning self-control, discipline, and mindfulness.

Over the past couple of months, I have enjoyed watching my students enjoy this rug themselves. We have had our morning meetings, yoga sessions (for calming down after an exciting group activity), and mindful meetings where we discuss our day together as a family. This rug provides the organized space children need to express themselves without feeling excluded.

We have done many math lessons there where we skip count by two or five by skipping on the rug. We've done many social studies lessons where we have created maps and community sketches (with wooden blocks and other toys) to represent the world around us. We have done science lessons where we use the different colored rows/columns to represent the life cycles of animals and plants. We have done so much, and that is all thanks to you.

For next year, I plan on implementing more instructional time on the rug rather than their seats. I also wish to use yoga as a mid-day wakener since our students get the earliest lunch period of the day. All this will be possible thanks to your contributions. I will never be able to thank some of you in person, but I can tell you that you made ALL of my students (both past, present, and future) school year more magical because of that carpet. That carpet is the center of our universe. It's where we can go read a book to escape the groups. It's where we can practice our breathing if we ever get too frustrated with a classmate. It's where they can take a friend to share a box of crayons. It's where all the magic happens.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Soriano

It is with immense pride that I call myself a New York City public school teacher. I work in a wonderful school that aims to provide the best education to the community around it. I work in a dual language program with another wonderful teacher. We teach our students separately in English AND in Spanish, where I handle all instruction in Spanish. It is a challenge but an incredible rewarding one to see young children speaking a language other than english in an academic setting. We both love our students and strive to provide the best learning environment for them. Each one of our students is learning how to formally and academically communicate in English and Spanish. We practice our speaking, listening, reading and writing skills every day! Whether through free writes, journals, or open-discussions, our school provides a safe and warm environment that allows our students to succeed in a rigorous program.
