These materials I am asking for my students will make a great impact to our math workshop. My students love math. They love participating in our math stations. The one thing that is missing from their participation in these stations and in class discussion is confidence.
This project will ultimately boost their confidence in speaking English and at the same time build on their everyday math skills.
My students are transitional bilingual students that are at different stages of their English acquisition, which makes some more confident in speaking than others. They need practice. With the recorders at the stations, all students will feel obligated to share and try to use math language if they know they are being recorded. The wireless microphone along with the lights will help during whole group class discussion by making students feel like stars for sharing their strategies out loud. The echo dot will be placed at a station where students can check accuracy, ask questions, and play some of the mind games from the app. What better way to practice your speaking! The timers, doorbell, and I Have Who Has game are to spice up our stations so that my kiddos will continue to love taking part in them as the year passes. This would definitely push my students to take that leap and feel proud that they did.
